Server Version#: 1.22.1.4275-6000
Player Version#: Google Chrome 89.0.4389.114
Tuner Make/Model: xteve
Guide/Lineup name: m3u4u
Using XMLTV?: yes
Channel number/Name: EPG Guide
I am running xsteve on a Mac Mini (Big Sur 11.2.3) using m3u4u as the source for channels and xmltv. Plex is running on a synology server (haven’t figured out how to run xsteve in Docker yet). The setup process seemed to go just fine. The mapping process was tedious, but I ended up with 182 channels that Plex recognized as a legitimate tuner. When I entered the guide source (a URL) it recognized the file source, showed me the map in the Plex DVR Setup, and said it was importing the program listings. The first time I ran it, everything went smoothly. I had a nice guide and 182 channels.
The problem started when it came time to refresh the guide. Plex still saw the 182 channels, said it was refreshing, but then I got the Empty Guide result. I tried a couple of things:
Restarted Plex
Reinstalled the Tuner in Plex
Saw a note in the xteve documentation that suggested using a file path in the guide setup would avoid a bug in Plex (but this may be old), so I did that, but Plex wouldn’t recognize the file path when I used this approach (xteve uses hidden files in the Mac implementation, so I also tried placing the xteve.xml file (which was populated) in the download folder.
I imagine that it is possible that xteve and Plex have to be from the same source (the synology server), but I’m not sure. Any xteve users ever encounter this? xteve seems to be working just fine.
HI mshermis,
You seem to be doing better than me! Have been unable to get the xmltv id file to upload in the mapping. Both in windows and QNAP hero. Using links provided by my IPTV and M3U4U, for the M3U and xmltv.
Which version of xteve are you using?
Qnap actually have xteve in a docker so I would of thought you would be the same.

There is a docker version for Synology and I have it installed, but struggle with the configuration steps (a newbie to docker). The nice thing about the Mac version is that it runs like a program that you can easily configure. I’m guessing the issue is on the Plex side since I can actually see the mapping when I install the dvr and it reports how many programs it is downloading. The xteve.xml file that xteve produces is populated with the channels that I have mapped. Plex just doesn’t save the refresh and gives the Empty Guide message.
I’ll explore whether there is a requirement that xteve and Plex have to be on the same platform.
Hi mshermis,
once the docker is loaded you should see a web address in the docker list load this into your web browser. If you gave it a static to start with even better. Then it should be the same to setup. just add “/web/” to the end.
Regards.
First, let me thank Dwight1379 for his help. I finally got Xteve working on my Synology NAS and was able to integrate it with Plex (my first docker project). It seems to work quite well. Let me give a shout out to the m3u4u.com website which creates an m3u interface for those of us using Xtream API portals for IPTV.
The answer to my original question seems to be that both Plex and Xteve have to reside on the same device in order for Plex to reliably update the EPG guide. I’m not sure why that is a constraint.
