So does Xplay, I have a WebOS2 TV as well (49UF770V) and Xplay has always had 4K support working.

xplay plays my 4k files perfectly on webos2 and 3

Apologies for the newb question - but I can’t find Plex or xPlay on the LG Store. I’ve read in a few places that there are issues with Plex for WebOS 3. And that xPlay is having issues getting approved from LG App store too.
I would like to install the xPlay clent on my new LG WebOS 3 tv ($#LH5700-UD running Software Version 04.10.04 … I’ve downloaded the xPlay client from https://xplay.itkey.ru/downloads/XPlay-1.1.6-20160615.zip
but how do I sideload it onto my LG TV via USB? Just format a usb stick as FAT, then extract the ZIP file onto the usb stick and insert into TV? I am hoping I don’t have to get an LG dev account to do this…

Sorry that should have been “43LH5700-UD”

and @Mazda77 - according to this LG site - it appears to be running WebOS 3

http://www.lg.com/us/support-product/lg-43LH5700 - this is what my SmartTV interface looks like:

  • so @bublikoff I went to xplay.itkey.ru - I have the file XPlay-1.1.6-20160615.zip on a FAT formatted USB stick - can someone point me to a guide on how to install it on the TV? I couldn’t find a FAQ or guide…

Just installed new 1.2.8 version of XPlay on my LG 55UF850V. Watching 4K mkv as I type this from my Synology DS with latest firmware. Running smooth, thanks and cheers @bublikoff !!

I do get some dropping audio here and there with 1080p mkv with 5.1 surround tracks. The 4K mkv played without any issues.

Just installed it on OLED55E6V… What’s new in this 1.2.8 version?

I tried many movies and all is playing fine with the last version. Thank you !

is XPlay still a nice option in 2017? (actively developed & supported?)
Unfortunately does not give enough income to be the main project and Ive to spend some time on other projects that give stable income. Anyway Yes I do work on a major update … unfortunately it takes much more time than I thought at the beginning. It will have totally new new app. It will almost dont share any sources codes with current version.
I also do corroborate with my friend to help him to backport new version to a non LG platform

About new update … for those who dont read twitter account.
Updated version has new update algorithms. I can now can push fixes without pushing them to LG QA.
But this update mechanism will work only when you are online until those changes will be published over LG QA

If you do not need filters for selecting videos by watched/unwatched, by genre, by year etc, then you can update.
If you need filters, then stay on 1.2.7.

P.S. Latest PMS version is 1.3.4.3285

I need clear answer for following question about latest PMS Version 1.3.3.3148 @bublikoff

I am using latest version of XPLAY on LG Store. I saw new PMS update Version 1.3.3.3148. Should I update my PMS? Thanks for all answers…
A bit outdated information) It works with 1.3.x (at least I test the app on 1.3.3.3148)

Trailers fixed, some UI issues were fixed … “Croped videos” issue must be ok now … but a bit hard to say if it was fixed for TV with 720p resolution.
New update mechanism to bring fixes a bit faster … and bypass LG QA at least before they approve changes to LG Apps STore

so guess what i just paid to unlock demo because I’ve read somewhere that different from the official plex app this would play softsubs without transcode anddddddddd i’m back to use plex trough DLNA…

And? What this post was about? If you dont like … dont need this app just dont use it … I dont force anyone to use it. This project was started as fun and because I did not like PlayZ UI. You can also start your own

Is there a known issue with the progress bar? It’s consistently around 2mins off (slow) on every video file I have. Can provide more info if needed.

Email me with details)

@bublikoff Why isn’t it possible to choose the size of embedded subtitles in mkv’s? Is that something you can implement?
Embedded subtitles processed by webOS … and API for embedded subtitles is quite poor. And problems with LG that I had last December were because Ive tried to discus with them subtitles API =)) They have started to make problems for me … they were a little offended)) I’ve pointed them to their own documentation))

hi bublik, is there an ETA to have advanced filters working again?
Have you tried with the last update of xplay?

I’ve noticed the the thumbnails for video quality ratings and studio icon is not displaying when viewing movie description on plex cloud server.
Any way to fix this bug. Xplay seems to beat plex official app as plex official wont connect to plex cloud servers. I really dont know why xplay also direct plays videos alot better than plex official. I wish Plex would hire the developer of xplay

Barry? Check email … Ive pushed fix over new “update channel”) Should be OK now

I’ve a problem with some remuxes where no audio is being played. The movies in which the problem occurs, have either a DTS-HD Master Audio or a Dolby TrueHD audio track. Most of the movies with DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD audio tracks direct plays just fine, it’s only some of the movies. The movies with that problem play just fine in the official Plex app, but the official app trancodes both the video and audio.

I’m using the newest versions of Xplay and the official Plex app on my 55" LG B6.

Unfortunately “Direct Play” means that it will pass link to a media directly to webOS player without doing anything with it. And you will have issues with some media files if your TV dont have codecs for decoding media content. The only way to play such media files is to transcode them to make them compatible with TV
