I am having problems with 10-bit colour files on Xplay. Normal 4K files play fine, but nothing that has 10-bit colour. The TV is a UH770V, WebOS 3.3.3.
Simon
Edit: On further investigation, it appears to be only some 10-bit files. The problem files play on OpenPHT, but not Xplay. Could a non-standard resolution (e.g. 1920 x 804) be causing the problem?
Hi bublikoff, great app. I have paid up and donated a bit as well to encourage your work. I have a few issues though - it looks like TrueHD tracks do not play at all (silence) although my AVR (connected via HDMI-ARC shows Dolby Digital). My TV is LG SJ810V SUHD. It is supposed to convert TrueHD to Dolby Digital on the HDMI-ARC. I don’t think the app plays DTS-MA either? One movie that I have that has TrueHD, DTS-MA and DTS plays as DTS regardless which track is selected. A movie with only TrueHD is silence only, and another with DTS-HD MA only does not play at all (direct play). Does play if transcoded (but breaks up). For now, I have muxed in an AC3 track for the TrueHD only movie:
but this does not work for the one with DTS-HD MA only track - still have an error. Currently extracting a few minutes of that movie to try different things…
By the way, I did manage to read through all 168 pages . Have you considered setting up a GitHub account for just the issues etc? Might be an easier way to keep track of things and avoid duplicate questions? I really wish Kodi will support HDR on linux…
Ok, tried different combinations and muxing AC£ etc on the file that throws up error - “The video could not be loaded, either because the server or network failed or because the format is not supported”. Transcodes OK but stutters. Plex app starts playing without transcoding but stutters (like everything else!). Interestingly, trying to play via DLNA generates “file not recognised” error.
So, looks like something not quite right with this file? I have enclosed mediainfo…

I would love to have this feature too. Hope we could have it soon. Thanks
For the moment Ive changed external subs display function … External subs now are displaying using system player functionality instead of using custom function. It will reduce a bit time delay for about ~50-100 ms
I’ll think how can I add manual correction of subtitles time offset
Hi @bublikoff,
Xplay is a great app and the manual external subtitle offset would be a very nice feature. I am a programmer, so if you need some help with this you can contact me.
on my 55b7V (lastest firmware Version 04.70.10 with TrueHD Atmos HDMI ACR Passtrough add feature) in Xplay dont have sound
Tested on official sample https://thedigitaltheater.com/index.php/dolby-trailers/ -Dolby TrueHD 7.1 ATMOS
When i start netflix/amazon film with DBVISION got pass through Dolby TrueHD 7.1 ATMOS to my audio system.
Hi! Since I have updated my plex server (Version 1.9.6.4429) we have problems with Xplay app, I always receive the sane message when I want to watch any video:
“The video could not be loaded, either because the server or network failed or because the format is not supported”

for your info this is not an issue with XPlay, ARC does NOT support PCM5.1, DD+, TrueHD, DTS-HD, for that you will need ARC2.0, that is not released yet, it is part of HDMI2.2.

It seems to me that the problem is not just the lack of ARC 2.0. If the TV has a built-in TrueHD atmos decoder, the signal should be reproduced and through the built-in conversions sent to the Aplitter as DD +. So they have built-in netflix / amazon services. DD + (connection through ARC HDMI), but how do you play the truehd with Xplay you have noting.
The sound should be heard in the built-in speakers
Exactly… I do know that ARC does not pass through TrueHD, Atmos as well as DTS-HD. However, the internal decoder is supposed to convert TrueHD to DD. Playing TrueHD material through xplay only results in silence. I did get around it by muxing in a DD track using ffmpeg as a workaround. Looks like only the left channel of AAC tracks is played as well.
Not being able to play music at all is a major problem! So, I am now using the standard free Plex app for all my music and 1080p and below material. TrueHD is transcoded rather than using the internal decoder. Funnily enough, the standard app plays back the LG cymatic demo (4K HDR) as DirectPlay without any trouble at all, but stutters with my other 4K demos as it transcodes HEVC to H264. So, it seems to be nearly there if only Plex makes an effort to update their app! I do not know the plex server well enough to know if it may just simply be a matter of changing the profile.
I am now only using xplay for the few UHD material that I have (with the TrueHD workaround).
I am sure once these issues are solved, I can continue with xplay as my only Plex app.
Been testing the music aspects of xplay a bit more…
Looks like it does not play flac files (silence) although the server states “direct play”.
XPlay does play mp3 and wav (16/44.1, 24/96 and DTS!), just not flac 16/44.1 24/96 or 24/96 MCH.
The Plex App plays direct mp3 files but transcodes everything else to DD.
I have noted that xplay uses the Plex Home Theatre Profile whereas the Plex App uses the HTML TV App profile. If I am not mistaken, the Plex App acts as web browser and I do not think will ever be able to support flac files without bitstreaming. Not sure about the XPlay though - seems curious that it cannot play FLAC files…

You could try using the build in Photo’s & Video’s app and use the DLNA function of Plex Server to play files directly on the TV. If that doesn’t convert the TrueHD stream then there is not much that XPlay can do about it I think.
Looks like the support for truehd was made available as follows:
[04.70.06]
For 2017 OLED TVs (W7, G7, E7, C7, B7)
Support TrueHD audio format through HDMI
Technicolor Expert mode
Mine is the SJ series, so looks like no TrueHD support! XPlay’s profile does not allow transcode either - but managed a workaround by muxing in a DD track using ffmpeg as per my earlier post. The flac issue is a deal breaker for me at present (plays absolutely fine using DLNA), but the Plex app plays it as DD - really, really annoying!
So, my supposedly “smart” tv is not that smart - I am probably better of getting once of those el cheapo amlogic android boxes. I was hoping for a single point of access for Netflix and some of my media and music

Yep. I know my b7 should support TrueHD after update but does won’t work… I assume that is serval TrueHD format and still not all are support. Hopefully LG add this support in future update.
I’m still thinking about restoring factory setting after update…
Tried emby just to see if some of the issues I was having is due to the TV itself or Plex. Looks like emby has the same issue with TrueHD - it cannot decode TrueHD tracks. Plays back HDR and Dolby Vision fine (but needs profile settings on the server to not allow transcoding). As for flac, emby plays well up to 24/192, so looks like it is an xplay / plex issue not being able to playback flac.
Emby, however, seems less stable than xplay, with a few crashes an UI glitches…
So, looks like nothing is perfect! If only Kodi will work directly on the TV…
