XPlay (WebOS)

Totally Pi***d of with official plex app for LG so ive gone and payed for Xplay, now everything seems to be fine

I really liked the layout of Xplay, but I had issues with it as well. Was hoping for reply from dev but no word. So I have been using the DLNA interface when I run into trouble which is really ugly.

I wish the Xplay Demo was program length limited rather than days to test limited so I could continue to test, just not use to watch full movies.

When i choose directplay in Xplay (which is default) does it do anything with the sound on a movie? It seems to me that the sound is different with direct play off. It sounds deeper and more DTS. I wonder whether Xplay downstreams or downgrades DTS or similar HQ audio in movies.

ā€œDirect playā€ mode means that it will be played the way it will handle LG TV.
ā€œTranscodingā€ mode meand that PMS will use media profile to transcode it and return to TV and TV will handle it the way it can.
For eg the app even can not control video or audio volume … only user can control volume

Sorry, but i dont get it. If i choose direcplay xplay sometimes downgrades DTS to Dolby Digital or loser (stereo).
I can see this in my Denos Heos app. Why does this happen when directplay is on (so no transcoding) is done by Plex?

I’m not 100% but i think it has to do with the tv not able to pass those modes to the AV reciver

Ok, I’ve read through this whole thread and I still have one likely stupid question.

I have the LG 55UH7700 TV. Is there a way to have Xplay play PGS-type subtitles without requiring transcoding? I understand that SRT-type ones play no problem because they’re just a text overlay, but I’m not clear on PGS.

Love the app! Keep up the great work!

Not being able to play flac is a deal breaker for me! I really like this app otherwise.

hopefully the dev will bring us updates sometime soon

No, since this is a limitation of Plex itself. See https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200471133-Adding-Local-Subtitles-to-Your-Media?mobile_site=true

Hi, with stable HDR 4k 10 bit moving playing well on this now this easily the best player on the market for any smart TV, however its missing one VERY BIG feature, FOLDERS, any change you could put folders into this, it makes browsing impossible if you have folders within folders, makes a real mess of things.

@bublikoff - thanks agian for you’re continued work and support on this fantastic app.

I download some anime with ASS subtitles and I think when they apply any formating the subtitle doesn’t show, for example when they italicize the letters they don’t show up at all. But when it’s display normally it works just fine. Could this be fixed? On the Plex player for windows they work just fine

Hello guys, I have the smart TV LG 47LA660S-ZA and I do not find the XPlay application in the blind. How I can install it? Thank you

Does this app properly output 23.976 Hz content? Meaning does it switch display modes based on source file framerate? Judder would be a dealbreaker over Kodi/OpenPHT.

Hi. This app is available only on tv with webos. Your model is old (2012-2013). You need to look for the app PlayZ ( i hope that i’m not wrong about the name).

I got no receiver and the tv is a lg oled 55c7 which can pass dts and dd pus etc via hdmi arc to my denon heos bar. sub and heos hs1. I think Xplay is the problem.

You can easily check if it’s the TV or XPlay by using the buildin Photo’s & Video’s app and Plex content over DLNA to play the same file.

I have the same problem. LG OLED 65C7 with no receiver. Sound out to a Polk Soundbar. Plex plays DTS files; XPLAY does not.

Then probably the Polk soundbar does not support DTS. Is it connected via HDMI (ARC) to the TV?

I googled it and you are correct, the Polk soundbar (Signa S1) does not support DTS. It is connected via Optical In from the TV.

Thank you for pointing that out. That clears up a major source of frustration for me. I had never considered that it was the soundbar that was the problem.

Does XPlay not support selecting between multiple files listed as the same movie/episode? I use this to have both 1080 and 4k movies, because the server can’t handle transcoding 4k to 1080 when needed.

Hi, trying out Xplay because built in Plex client on my brand new 65c7t won’t play 4k without transcoding.

I’m trying play an MKV - not transcoding, but also getting just a black screen. Any advice?

Thanks!
