XPlay (WebOS)

I just make sure I always download extra SRT subtitles using Sub-Zero plugin in Plex to do this automatically. Never any problems with subtitles.

This won’t help. The problem here is that hte program doesn’t have a good way to display things when there are many subtitles. The program also seems to put external subtitles at the bottom. So they’re the ones i need, but the ones most likely to be cut off.

Ah yeah, but that is another issue. One way to solve this is to select the subtitle drop-down upfront (before starting the video). In that drop-down you can go all the way down using the arrow-down key of your remote. I agree it’s tedious, but it works

Also: in Plex Media Server you can set the options for which subtitles to use, including defaults in language.

which is faster if you have a proper signal.

That’s the unfortunate bit. It depends on having a proper signal. I’m in an incredibly dense location with over 250 wifi networks in range (presumably more, but that seems to be the cap for my OS ). And that doesn’t address all the random other signals going on all the time.

A gigabit ethernet chip is incredibly cheap. They can be had for < $3 (much less in large bulk). For the 1.5k+ price that LG charges you, it would be nice if they didn’t skimp here. Wired is just much more reliable, and important for these types of streaming scenarios. Insisting on wifi for those scenarios instead of the cheap and simple wired options is unfortunate.

Ah, thanks. That does work! Awesome!

I am curious how to update/upgrade to the latest version when it comes out, will it be submitted to the LG Store and show as an update, or is there another way to update to the latest version if there is a newer one than the one from about 6 months ago now. Looking forward to a new version… hopefully soon… thanks @bublikoff

Hi all and thanks @bublikoff for making this great app. Only recently I have acquired an LG and the app so far works great! So much better than the native app!!!

Just as others I have some buffering issues with 4K content, on both wifi and ethernet (even with the router sitting just next to the TV. It would be great if one could play with the buffer settings, to allow for larger buffers to reduce/remove the buffer process completely. The other, on my 55 inch screen the icons do look a little small, so with the magic remote if you have unsteady hands can get quite interesting. The one little thing I and my Family could do with is tooltips particularly when using the magic remote that will tell you what a particular button does, I had to find out by using it (which is fine for me, but my family always asks, what does that do?!).

Otherwise very impressed, thanks for all the work too!

Hey all. Im just getting statet with using this nice software on my LG C7 OLED.
Thanks for the hard work!

I have some question and i hope to get some help.

Hi there! I just purchased a copy of xplay and i wanted to say thank you for all your hard work and for making an excellent program. I love how fast it is to navigate through my media, and how it seems to play everything with almost no hitches (including 4k HDR content).

There are some issues, but from reading through this thread, it does sound like you already know about it. The issues are mainly around subtitles (causing transcoding, not picking the right subtitle, etc.) but it sounds like these are mostly issues in the LG player not being extensible enough. As a developer myself, i understand how these issues can be blocking and can be very problematic.

That said, if you can eventually fix it, it would be very appreciated! Maybe it might help if these messages were forwarded to the right devs/groups at LG. I’d be happy to convey to them how beneficial these API additions would be, if that would help.

Again, thanks much. Great app, and i look forward to updates to it in the future!

Would this work on plex cloud?

There is no support. It would be OK if it would be a free app…

  1. Are you sure you’re selecting the correct external subtitles and not an embedded sub? XPlay can’t format embedded subs because LG doesn’t provide an API for this so it only works for external SRT subtitles.

  2. XPlay doesn’t have support for playlists (yet).

Ahhh Frank you are right! I have .srt (external) that thanges in size. But the .srt does not  Thanks.
Im looking forward to the playlists

Can i help with a danish translation?

I’m not the developer, @bublikoff is, but I follow the forums quite a lot

How often is this app typically updated?
My current version shows 1.2.8 from Feb 3, 2017 (almost 11 months ago)

I ask because app continually stalls on 4K HDR, but DLNA play doesn’t. Guessing app is trying to transcode when it doesn’t need to?
(still lot better than 15 months ago Plex app v2.1.0!)

LG OLED 2017

As ekemate93@gmail.com said, I don’t expect much from a free app. But to pay for an app that’s already failing me, may be abandoned, never updated or bugs fixed…

Capitalism dictates I abandon what’s abandoned and just get a stick with Plex to support progress.
i.e. Plex Android updated Dec 20 (today). XPlay maybe never?

Now if @bublikoff just contributed this to open source world…
he really started something great here!!

As I understand it, XPlay is an online app which can be updated without needing to go through LG’s approval process each time. If you’re online when you launch XPlay, you’ll be running the latest version.

On my end, with my WebOS 3.0 LG TV (an OLED65B7P), the current version of XPlay is 20171104.1.2.8, which suggests it was updated fairly recently on November 4th.

If you read through this thread, Bublikoff posts updates periodically. I recall that he ran into memory issues with the version upgrade of the software and is currently optimizing. Even though we don’t get updates from him as often as we’d like, that doesn’t necessarily mean that he isn’t working on it.

Let’s all have a little more patience!
