XPlay (WebOS)

I have been using XPlay for 3 days now with a iMac 2012 3.4Ghz i7 16GB RAM as server and LG OLED65C7V as client. But I’m experiencing a lot of buffering on files of ~5GB every two minutes or so, on files around 1GB not really a problem.

My ethernet speed is 17.5/175 and my iMac has a wired connection and for the TV I use a router on very close distance. The TV is showing speeds around 150 - 175.

Anyone know what the problem can be? or where I should start looking? I mean these aren’t even close to 4K files.

@bart.1993@hotmail.com do you get this with the official app as well? Do you have issues on other clients?

I stream 4 k Films with HDR over my nas per lan (Ethernet) to my oled. i have no problems with xplay, but with the plex LG App . you can not watch 4k HDR.

Hi
i want to test too please i have LG OLED E7V here with xplay and plex running on a selfmade server J4205 Intel Pentium. Best regards

There are no tech aspects are interested actually … most of all Im interested in active testers who can spend some free time and discover issues or suggest changes to the UI to improve it.

Unfortunately you have to play with your network setup … There is nothing I can do on the app side.
Try for eg 5Ghz WiFi … I had some exp with IP TV app for my old TV and I had problems with wire connection and 2.4Ghz while trying to watch HD channels … and after Ive switched to 5Ghz WiFi router I was finally able to watch them without any problems.
What about PMS … Ive some test 4K media files and Ive also have no problems with them on 5Ghz WiFi … I can watch them on my webOS 3.5 TV … my old webOS 1.3 will probably die with such content

I’m happy to test. I use XPlay quite heavily so I’m sure I could find issues and give feedback.

Hello, there should be a new version with new settings from xplay. I use the version 20180222.1.2.8. Is this the latest?
Thanks for an answer

Hi
Need some extra testers … but please not too many))
I already have 1 tester and just need to test the app in different environment … in different circumstances

Hi. I quite use the application of xplay. I have experience in beta tester test. I am interested in testing the beta and providing information about it.

is your iMac on GIG or slower? 100mb you’d think would be speedy, and your TV may only be able to do that, but I think the server should be connected to your network as fast as it can go, assuming your not doing just WI-FI.

Hello,
I bought this app on yesterday for watching 4K with HDR and I am impressed it worked well. Because the need of subtitles I used PGS formatted subtitles with the red (T) mark byside. After starting the playback I only got a black screen. No error, just a black screen.

Just to be sure, can this app Transcode 4 kann content with selected subtitles?

My server is a dual-cpu with 32 cores and 64 GB if RAM, so the power should be enough

Thanks a lot for helping!

Hey,
I’m very happy using Plex and Xplay on my LG C7V.
I noticed an issue with language selection.
I’m a french user.
Sometimes in need to select english to get french or the opposite.
The audio channel selected from Xplay is not the good one.

Any plan to fix it in next release ?

thx

XPlay doesn’t transcode anything of course, it will just play the file PMS serves and will ask PMS for a transcoded version if it sees that it can’t handle the original. This means there is most likely something wrong in the PMS side.

Hi, there!

Thanks for the XPlay app! I have a LG B7 and XPlay saved me from purchase a streaming box…

Well, I’m using the app for some days now and today I was playing a video with .ass subs. Unfortunatelly the app transcodes the video because of it (.ass subtitles), but the TV WebOS itself plays .ass (I did the test playing the same video by DLNA).

I’m from a Samsung F8000 and the Tizen Plex app there could play .ass subs transcoding or not (in this case, using the “TV manager” working, or something).

Will this function be available on the new Xplay version? Or it’s impossible to play .ass without transcoding on the WebOS?

The video (1080p) was stuttering.

Thanks.

Have been trying to play 4k content on the LG 79UB9800 for a bit and see that everything is being transcoded. I guess the mkv file has to support something specific. Anyway noticed this player, installed it, and it ran oblivion fine. However, I then tried Independence Day, and the 2nd one, no luck. Said it couldn’t play. Fired up the Plex app and it played it fine although again it converted it to 1080P.

Since it seems the native app wants to convert everything (I see that it just did this to Mummy series we watched) I wanted to try this app. Before I purchase it for 10 bucks was hoping it would play more files. Not sure why it is failing to play this specific one. Is there any reason why it won’t play some 4k file or give the error that “format is not supported” ?

Edit: I think it is related to TrueHD.

On server side everything is fine, because with the official plex app for lg I don’t have any issues on Transcode. I only use xplay to play native 4k HDR content.

@bublikoff

Thank you very much for the app.

I have some suggestions/wishes since you are working on a successor.

1.) It would be nice to have a home button like in the original Plex App.

2.) I was used to watch picture shows (e.g. holiday fotos) while playing music.
Unfortunately this is not possible with your App.
Even the picture show is not seamless but interrupted by loading the next picture which
is very annoying and therefore not usable at all.
With the original Plex App you can play music and watch a seamless picture show
since the pictures are loaded in the background.
With the Samsung App it was even possible to adjust the speed of the picture show.

EDIT: I have found that it is possible to adjust the speed in the general settings.
But it would be better to be able to change this from within the show.

3.) I have many audio dramas (200pcs.) which are sorted by numbers 000…200.
Unfortunately they are hardly browsable with your App, since there is just one row showing 4-5 pcs.
Another downside is you can only scroll forward and not reverse which would make it much
easier to access higher numbers.
The original Plex App does this just a little better (2 rows) but with fast forward scrolling.
With the Samsung App it was even possible to show multiple rows like in the movies section.

Which is leaving me actually to use both Apps, the only reason I’m using your App
is because the original Plex App does not direct play subtitles.

I decided to go with an LG TV since my Samsung TV died too fast.
Unfortunately the Plex App from my former Samsung TV was miles ahead.

The Xplay app is nice. However, my 79UB9800 only has a 100 MB Ethernet port so that is the limiting factor. Plays 1080 just fine. However, once you start trying to play anything 4K it just isn’t enough throughput that it can manage. I was looking at the port on the switch and it was pushing 80 MB/Second. Also looks like it was still transcoding HEVC to H264 bitrate but keeping 4K. Looked great but early adapters to 4K LG skimped on the network. Really odd since it was a 4K set - they had to know how much data was going to be passed…

In order to watch the 4k content I guess it is time to buy something that has a faster network layer such has the Shield. I don’t want to keep adding devices sadly and nothing is wrong with the set outside of this.

Just got a new modem. The new Telstra smart modem. Using an LG TV webos 2.5. The official plex app works fine but the xplay app asks to link when reset which works but then xplay says failed to connect to disk station. Any ideas? Edit: sorted it out. Last thing I did out of frustration was to stop then start plex in the NAS itself. Could have been something else I tried but not sure…

Apologies if this has been answered - will XPlay support Atmos/DD+ over ARC like the rest of LG’s internal apps do on their 2017 OLEDs?

Thanks!

ARC dose not support DD+ / ATMOS so no, ARC only supports DD / DTS / PCM 5.1
