XPlay (WebOS)

The previous version before the October update was just perfect for me. I was very inspired to read this forum when I first saw the update warning and decided it was a no go. In the meantime it seems the bad things got worse.

The latest (December) release is still a no go for me. I’m running the good old version but that update warning is very annoying. Does anyone know if it’s possible to disable it?

For the future it will be very helpful if there was a trial mode for new releases, or at least some kind of communication (change log, new features, screenshots, etc) from the developer about the upcoming version.

I agree, this is an important feature for me too!

Hello everyone.
I’ve been noticing that every day the App X-play version is having the automatic updates.

but I still have some problems:
1- series with more than 8 seasons now works using the scrool of the magic remote, but not being possible to roll between the seasons to par of the eighth season using the directional of a normal control.

2- the main screen images are blurry, with low pixel.

3- I still miss the old Layout. he was much more friendly to use me a big screen TV and everything worked fine.
The new Layout seems to have been made for smartphones or touch screens.

I hope it’s possible to choose Layout in future updates.

Hi folks,

I still do have this weird issue with the non-english subtitles.
Every time I select a non-english subtitles, plex starts transcoding movies which makes it impossible to watch due to buffering.
Worth to mention that without any subtitles OR with English subtitles the transcoding does not start.

I wonder if anyone else faced a similar issue?
Both internal and external SRT subtitles are causing transcoding.

In addition, the very same movie with the very same non-english subtitles works perfectly fine using the built-in DLNA client on my TV, but XPlay for some reason forces plex to transcode the video which is likely a proof that XPlay may have a bug here.

With the old version (pre October upgrade) everything was working like a charm… it is a pity that we can’t simply downgrade.

I was very excited to see an update the other day hoping it would fix my issue, but ever since the release of this first major “update” I can’t even use what I paid for… Only 3 users ever show up and I have 4.

Is anyone else experience the same issues with the “old” app. As far as I’m aware, I haven’t updated the:

  • Synology PMS (1.14.0.5470-9d51fdfaa)
  • LG firmware on my C7 (05.80.10)
  • nor the Xplay app (20170202.1.2.8)

but all of a sudden all of the additional audio streams want to transcode and fail to play whenever the audio stream isn’t the primary stream.

Edit: As additional checks, the LG media player using DLNA as well as the official Plex app can play back the 2nd stream without problems, so it certainly seems that Xplay is the culprit. I know this was an issue on the older WebOS version, but TV is running WebOS3 and it was never a problem earlier.

Hi.
I using Xplay a long time.
In new version new theme UX is terrible. (slow)

  1. forward video is very slow
  2. problems with subtitling detection (if filename is many dots)
  3. older version non-problem which .srt UTF-8, UTF-8 BOOM, now I must convert to stricte UTF-8
  4. problems with the playback of ripping audio at Video AVC at 10.000 kb /s
    Aspect: 1920 x 1080 (1.778) at 25,000 fps Audio AC-3 at 192 kb /s 2 channels, 48.0 kHz
  5. example today I upload new episode series, refresh in plex media but in TV don’t show. Restart xplay helped.

I wanted to echo the comments made already as it also affects me using LG OLED B7.

  1. Like everyone I prefer the old interface (but no point crying over spilt milk).

  2. Keep getting into pin-loop every few days. Some days I can get in by turning TV on and off, other days it doesn’t work. [MAJOR]

  3. Auto sign in please like official Plex app. [MAJOR]

  4. I have two Plex servers, however top bar always shows second server even if the first server is the default and it’s libraries are on the screen.

  5. I also get the “oops something gone wrong” message after stopping a movie.

  6. Unlike official Plex app, I can’t turn off the theme tune for a TV series. It’s also very loud so don’t tend to use X-Play for TV shows.

  7. Official Plex app can handle E-AC3 audio when TV uses ARC with my AV. However, X-Play gives me silence.

I was a very big fan of X-Play (for 4k playback) before the interface change but now it’s much harder to use.

Completely agree with all of this (already reported them). And by the way my tv is the same!
I see my self using more and more the official app, with all this problems…which is unfortunate!

I have to agree. With my new television I started to use the official plex app as well. Mainly due to bugs and interface design.

Unfortunately my parents have to use xplay due to being on the old webos that doesn’t support direct play. Despite the fact that I appreciate the effort that is being put into making Xplay better. I still feel like if only we could just go back to how things were. It was working just perfectly fine for us.

I’m sorry the term used, because I do not want to offend anyone. but I do not know why the stubbornness of continuing with something that did not work out.

I support any development work of the application author, and any changes that bring improvements and new features are welcome.

But this update was not welcomed by the users, considering the amount of complaints and reports of problems.

I do not know why @bublikoff does not return the previous version that was working perfectly, and with that it ends up with these problems once and for all.

the new interface is not legal. there are many Bugs.

it might be better to step back one step so that you can take it two steps later.

So it looks like people at least have XPLAY working to some degree. I am still stuck in my PIN loop where I have been stuck for months. I have tried every suggestion in this forum a number of times. Updated the TV and app. Nothing. Can someone please point me in the right direction. Tks

For some reason I still can’t play anything. It’s only a red circle that keeps spinning. My plex server is on linux, maybe that’s the issue?

Playing movies with Xplay (version 5 dec) with more than 50mpbs results in stuttering. The TV throughput is 120+ Mbps. Chromevast Ultra can play it correctly but the image with Xplay is smoother on LG55B6V.

Is there anyway to go back to the version that was current before the two updates after October?

Am I a bit slow, or is there no way to filter out watched movies anymore with these new updates?

Apart from this and the ‘Oops, something gone wrong’ messages after stopping a movie, I haven’t had any issues, really.

Love the fact you can now adjust the subtitle playback timing!

Well, I had kind of issue in the past plex not using all available network bandwidth, but I don’t know why the solution hasn’t been posted on the forum yet…

As far as I remember switching the Plex servers from XPLAY (pre oct 8 update) did the trick. I have two Plex instances at home, one for testing and the other one for “production”. After I connected to the test instance PMS/XPLAY started to use full network bandwidth again. I really don’t know if it was a PMS or XPLAY issue.

Hope this will help you.

Why @bublikoff isnt answering anymore here? He gave up from this fight or…? Does anyone know maybe?

have you found out more about this? I have the same problem, connection to server works perfect, but i cannot play anything, even local direct play, just shows a red circle spinning but the stream never loads. I am mac server, deleted and reinstalled xplay, but to no avail. Any suggestions?

have you made any progress on the red circle? I am at the latest XPlay version, connection to server ok, but cannot play a single thing… it’s all spinning red circle…

Seems that the developer abandoned us after buying the app xplay
I have my LGC8 didn’t update yo the new version with no issues
I did a mistake of updating my old LG B7 without reading this forum !!
Now I’m using original plex app no issues
