Sadly Xplay is the only alternative for non-4K TVs, since Plex has pulled the plug on them for no good reason…
Not really a Roku or ATV or many other devices are available, these devices will give you many years Plex connection. Early Smart TV’s were not very smart, I know I had one as I have stated in other discussions. My early WebOS LG had issues back a few years ago, my solution at that time was move on. Now I have a awesome 65"OLED with a processor that can handle WebGL.
The result is just stunning considering it’s all done remotely. With a additional box you too can enjoy your content with a richer, faster UI. Life is good and I do not regret my decision.
So Xplay is dead and it has been removed from the LG store as well. I am about to buy a new TV and wondering how can i get Xplay? I had zero issues since i’m using it, and i’m deeply disappointed about this news. Any good alternatives? Is the official Plex app still transcoding videos when applying an SRT file?
XPLAY is still in the store, today i reinstalled it. Try Bulgaria region.
Today some good news from the group or developper:

I have a problem. I reset TV (WebOS 1.4) and now XPlay show API error connect. Has anyone had the same problem?
For the last few days XPLAY won’t stream anything on my LG smart TV. I have Plex Plus which stopped supporting the old LG TV but XPLAY has worked perfectly until now. I’ve the latest software and have paid for the XPLAY. Please help.
So far the best alternative to Xplay is Amazon Fire Stick 4k + Kodi side-loaded + Plex addon for Kodi - it plays anything you throw at it without transcoding. The only minor issue is the display of the subtitles for 3d content.
I am still lucky to have Xplay vers pre nov 2018 update working, but it’s always good to have a backup.
Also found out official Plex app from Amazon Store is way better than the one on WebOS. Though it has some issues with hd audio formats (True HD) which trigger transcoding, but if you choose other formats (DTS, AC3) it’s ok.
Hello
XPLAY update expected to support Dolby Vision Dual Layer with MKV?
Thanks
Hola, alguien sabe por qué Xplay me hace mucho buffering y Plex no lo hace?
I guess @bublikoff was joking?
Development is dead?
Nope.
Im working on its update with new UI and new UI navigation algorithm
New release will work on webOS 5.x
Here is some screenshots of new UI
Hi,
I can’t find the app on the LG Content Store (on any region). Is there a manual installer file or how do I install this on my LG CX? Thanks!
Support for web os 3.5 as well @bublikoff ?
Keep going! Thanks for your effort and excellent app!
Seems dead again
Hello everyone.
I had some issues playing some 4k HDR mkv’s wirh the original Plex app that were showing all washed out and HDR was not getting activated so i decided to give xPlay a go. Everything seems fine but my only issue is with the subttitle that get a red T and the video will not play.
I understood from reading around here that it has to do with some transcoding and using a separate srt file will help. The thing is that a mkv with multiple integrated subs is not showing the red T for all of them. And the original plex app has no issues with the subs. Is there a possible fix here or should i just stick to the original plex app and just use xplay when 4K HDR videos are not working properly there ?
Also noticed that this sub issue is happening regardless of the quality of the video or any other factor.
Man I really hope boblikoff still have the time and resources to keep up the god work.
Just sold my old 2015 led tv with working xplay. Never had any problems.
Now I bought a 65 oled cx and find these problems, darn.
Is it over… and should we look for another solution?
Hey Buddy, i couldn’t find the app on lg store, which country have you succeeded downloading it from ? (CX here also)
