Yamaha Musiccast and OSX Plex Media Server

Server Version#: 1.20.1.3252

In my local I have a MacMini hosting the Plex Media Server I can access the Plex content on any device in my home network using the Plex client, except from my Yamaha RN602 receiver, it does simply don’t find the server.

  • My network has uPNP enabled
  • I can access Plex outside my home network without issues
  • I can ping the Yamaha receiver from the Mac mini without issues.
  • MacMini 10.15.7 (latest)
  • Yamaha MusicCast 4.20 (latest)
  • Plex Server has DLNA enabled, and under General / Network / “List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth” I’ve added the IP address of my Yamaha receiver.
  • If I attach a USB drive with music files to my router I can access that without issues on my Yamaha receiver, this is what makes me think that the issue is with Plex Media Server settings.

Any setting that I’m missing?

Thanks!

Probably the same problem as this thread:

Plex Media Server now comes with DLNA off by default. You can turn it back on but Trumpy81 details a consideration you should know about before turning it back on in that thread.

Good luck

Thanks @CWallace, but as I mentioned in my first post I already have DLNA enabled in my Plex Media Server, that is also why I listed the Server Version.

On your router? That’s probably UPnP-IGD, and shouldn’t be related to UPnP-DLNA in this context.

What have you entered here? The field is allergic to spaces. (Edit: but as MovieFan says, not relevant to DLNA!)

VLC can browse and play media from DLNA servers. Try using it on the Mac to confirm the DLNA server is running, and from another machine on your network to confirm it’s visible on the network.

That setting has no affect on the DLNA server. Can you see the Plex DLNA server from other DLNA clients?

Is your receiver seeing the USB drive as just straight up files or does your router have a DLNA server built in too? Having multiple DLNA servers on a network can cause confusion and prevent one or both from being seen.

Hah! Well, if so, I might have been half-wrong about my “On your router? …” comment.

UPnP-IGD, the common router feature for port forwarding, isn’t required for DLNA, the media sharing protocol, elsewhere on your network.
