Yet another issues with plex - forced back to start of show

I am a plex pass lifetime member and have been using Plex for around 3 years.

I have a big library and use plex for hours everyday.

I really am getting fed up with bug after bug , issue after issue , problem after problem.

Plex is getting worse every release. Maybe not worse but just no better

I didn’t have this type of crap last year.

Every day and I mean every day something fails.
I must have sent 50 of those bug/error reports and that is probably half of the crashes I have had!
WTF is going on?

Here is the latest
This is happening with the 2 latest Windows server versions as I updated today!

I am watching a TV Show ( this has happened about 6-7 times in the last few days)
My server is a I7 NUC and my player is a Shield pro. (It is a high end setup with 100TB of storage)
So 3/4 through the show the startup screen overlay (with details <-<< – > >> etc) pops up with the orange line filling all the way to the right.
The show is still on. So I click the back button to get rid of the overlay - and it stops altogether and goes back to the start of the show !!!
And does not give the resume option.

Dear Plex,
Stop adding “features” and get the core program working properly.
Hold off on the whole DVR thing until plex works as a server - reliably !
I am seriously looking at alternatives and we know there really is only one.

If I could move my watched data easily I reckon I would not be here…

Plex determined you were done watching that item, it was boring and you weren’t enjoying it - Plex knows you wanted to watch something else. Just be glad Plex didn’t inject an advertisement into your viewing experience - to liven things up and make it more interesting for you.

Plex knows when you are sleeping,
Plex knows when you’re awake,
Plex knows if you’ve been bad or good - and data mines for goodness sake…

Better watch out, better not cry, better not pout - I’ll tell you why…
More Plex “Features” com-ing… to town…

I’ve seen the overlay come up a few times too. I’m not able to find the cause of it. Looking through the app logs, there’s nothing indicating that the app is triggering the overlay. My current guess is something with the Shield itself.

I’ll admit, I have not tried hitting back when this happens. I just wait and let it expire. I’ll try next time, but if my guess above is correct and it’s something on the Shield and not in the app, then when the overlay is up, the app doesn’t know it’s there so hitting back would give the result as if the overlay was not there.

If the orange bar was all the way to the end, that would indicate something made Plex think the video was done, so when you hit back, it marked the file as watched, so you don’t get the resume.

I’m still looking for the cause. If you can get me the app log next time you see this, maybe I can find something in common.

Thanks MFP,

Mine doesn’t expire .
Will try for the log next time.

@“MovieFan.Plex”
It is happening again but not to all shows
And yes it appears to unique to my Shield 2017 pro
Hitting back finishes that episode and shows it as watched with no option to resume

Where may I find the appropriate logs after this happens

The easiest way I found is to repeat the problem or right after it occurs, enable the debugging logging feature, a URL will be shown on the screen, enter that into a web browser. Save the results.
