How do I do it??? My wife is a fan of Bionic Woman. (Wonder why? hahaha) I bought her the full set of episodes and mixed in are 6 Six Million Dollar Man episodes. Typically it is because the episodes involve both shows and were alternated between the two. (E.g., part 1 was televised as Bionic Woman, part 2 was televised as Six Million Dollar Man, part 3 was televised as Bionic Woman again.) To get Plex to correctly identify the episodes, I created a new folder for Six Million Dollar Man, but now my wife is frantic because, “You did something and lost part 2!” Is there a way I can fool Plex and get it to show the episodes in order within the menu so she can find them? Thanks!
not really but you can do what I do and merge the two episodes involved and put a copy in each show’s folder naming them correctly for that show.
Yes that creates two copies but storage is cheap. But if you want to have only one copy you can use hardlinks. I used to do that but I decided that the savings in space did not offset the trouble involved and the further problems that occur if I decide to move stuff around.
Thank you, Elijah! Not sure how Plex will label those episodes, but I have had to do enough manual fixes to know it isn’t that hard. I appreciate you taking the time.
If you simply name the combined episodes as if they were simply the episode for the particular series that they are being placed in then Plex will pick the name appropriate to that series.
Lets say (I do not know if the series names I am about to use is actually used in the series but they probably are not) you have a Bionic Women episode that is the first part of a two part episode and it is s03e04 and the second part is from the Six Million Dollar Man and it is s05e03 the you combine the shows into one episode. Then when you put the episode back in each series you name the one that came from the Bionic Woman s03e04 and the one that came from the Six Million Dollar Man s05e03 and then you just place them back in the appropriate series just like they were before.
If you want full metadata reflecting both episodes then you will have to edit the metadata yourself.
I’m not sure how often your wife would watch episodes over and over but you can make a playlist of the two shows. Basically filter by the two shows, sort them in aired order and then make the playlist. You can have it auto filter out watched episodes, so when she comes back to it the first item in playlist is the next episode she has not watched.
