Yet another problem loading content

Hey guys,

 

I have been through the whole setup and after going into trailers all my files are there, it displays all the metadata to but whenever I try to play a file it display's the dreaded 'An error occurred loading this content'

 

I'm running Mac OSX 10.9 and an Apple TV 3, just upgraded to a Plex Pass to.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The log shows something is using port 53, you need to find out what this is and address it so plex connect can use port 52 for DNS, if you have a DNS server running on the machine, the you will need to look at the advanced setup ad use it to redirect the required domains

Although with this error you would not get any of your media on the ATV.

Thanks for the tip, i'v definitely got the media files and all  the metadata.

Sorry but I not too experienced with this sort of thing, is there an easy way to check what may be on Port 53?

I found a guide on another site, definitely not running a dns server or bind, still not sure as to what is taking up Port 53

Since you DO actually get some metadata and stuff BUT port 53 is in use you're probably running PlexConnect TWICE (or even more). That can cause all sort of problems (I would think)

Don't know about MAC, but on Windows you can check for python.exe processes.

I had the same issue with my iMac showing same error of using Port 53 and I don't run a DNS Server at all.

I fixed it by rebooting and restarting PlexConnect and all was fine, so give that a try :)

Okay so I shut down Plex and restarted it.

When I launched terminal things started looking a bit better, this was the results.

Now when I go into trailers it can't load anything at all, not even metadata, so I restarted the Apple TV, now it only shows two channels, 'Computers' and 'Settings'.

 

This is really starting to do my head in.

May apologies for the massive slabs of code I'm copy/pasting, I don't really know how to read it and I just don't want to miss anything.
From what I can tell here nothing is clogging up Port 53 though??

Now you have it working we don’t need te port 53 information.


You say this;

But he log says

So your ATV should have its DNS pointed to 192.168.1.53 not 192.168.1.50

Thanks Drewbie I just noticed that, for some reason the DHCP reservation isn't working.

Since resetting plex and the apple tv I'm having issues with Port 53 again!

SOunds like you are not closing plexconnect correctly thus it is holding open its connection to port 53.

Reboot your machine and make sure when closing the plexconnect command window to always user CTRL-C not just close trhe window.  (ALternatively to rebooting kill all python processes in activity monitor)

Finally I got it working!!

I think it was a combination of things and when I had one thing working the other wasn't.

It seems like the Port 53 thing had something to do with Plex, despite killing the application it still didn't clear it but once I rebooted the Mac it seemed to fix it. 

But whenever the Port was clear I think that was when my DNS settings weren't right, well they were but for whatever reason my MAC wouldn't (and still won't) lock into my DHCP reservation on my router, something to work on but I can live with that for now.

Last step was I just redid everything fresh, restored the Apple TV to original setting, deleted Plex and reinstalled it and deleted and re-installed Plex Connect and I just did the whole process from the start.

Many, many, many thanks to drewbie, freaknl and petsue for holding my hand through the process, It's probably straight forward for you guys but It's quite daunting for someone that knows bugger all about programming!

Now I'm off to go watch some movies!

Glad you got it working.


On the DHCP reservation just make sure you have entered the MAC address correctly (or change from a dhcp resevation to having a static ip on the machine (not a good idea if it’s a laptop you take to multiple location)

I'll look into it but the laptop very rarely leaves the house, maybe once a year if i'm away on holidays.

MAC address is definitely right, I checked that.

Untill I nut out how to reserve it or have a static IP, every time I turn it on i'll have to check it matches up with the ATV

Or just use a static ip on the machine, as you say it nevers leaves the house anyways…
