Yet another remote access issue (2/3 servers work though)

Server Version#: 1.19.2.2673-776106bc6

I have 3 plex servers running from home (all with static IPs on different public ports). 2/3 give me the green check mark that they are available externally. (1 is a mac mini, 1 running in a docker)

The PMS running on Windows is giving me issue. I temporarily disabled all firewalls, antivirus etc. I have verified my port is open via canyouseeme.org. The PMS is available externally despite pms complaining it is not. All streams seem to be capped at 2mbps however.

I see this in my console log: NAT: PMP, got an error: NATPMP_ERR_RECVFROM.

Attached are some logs. I scoured the forums and have tried most fixes. I am ready to start upgrading NIC drivers but wanted to see if anything stood out in the logs first.

Thanks in advanced.

From the logs it looks like your 3rd PMS is trying to establish a public port through UPnP.
Can you double-check you have checked Manually specify public port and set that to the public port you defined in your port forward (in Settings > [your server] > Remote Access)?

Hi Tom, confirmed. See attached

PMS checks in with servers at plex.tv to verify remote access. If that check-in fails for some reason PMS will incorrectly show remote access is not available.

See thread below for more info.

FYI, It is happening on multiple platforms. I run PMS on a Synology DS918+. Mine was showing unavailable earlier today even though canyouseeme.org said it was available. Clicking on “Retry” forced PMS to check-in w/ plex.tv and things went green.

In Plex Dashboard, does the connection show a Remote or Indirect when somebody is streaming remotely?

If Remote, check the bandwidth & quality settings on the remote client.

If Indirect, clients might be connecting via Plex Relay for some reason.

Does that mean this is a widespread issue and plex is actively resolving? Or could something still be wrong with my setup?

For whatever reason I cant stream remotely at all now to see if its remote or indirect…

Was just saying that canyouseeme.org is a real-time check if port forwarding, etc is working. The PMS remote access page checks on a periodic basis and can sometimes provide incorrect information.

It says remote when I stream on cellular.

I was having a problem today. I installed the latest update to Plex, and now it seems ok.

That is good. You are not using Plex Relay, which has a 2 Mbps cap.

If still limited to 2 Mbps, check the settings on your remote devices. The default is usually at a low rate. Change it to a high rate or to Maximum.

On an Android mobile phone, it is Settings → Quality → Remote Streaming.

Okay, now any reason why my Windows server still shows as “unavailable” externally but my other two PMS are good? Is it purely cosmetic error at this point and it actually is?

The status shown on the Plex Remote Access configuration screen sometimes gives false negatives. It sometimes shows remote access is not working when it really is available.

That is the reason for testing via canyouseeme.org. It provides immediate feedback whether or not your server is reachable via the Internet.

Also take a look at uptimerobot.com. It is like canyouseeme, but repeats on a regular interval. You’ll get an e-mail notification if it cannot reach your servers. The base service is free and supports up to 50 monitors. I signed up a couple of days ago. So far, so good.
