Your Changes Could Not Be Saved - New Plex Server Install

Hey Guys -

So due to a recent drive crash which held Plex's AppData, I decided to start my Plex Server installation from scratch.  I ran into errors so decided to clean everything before install first.  I performed the following actions in order:

1. Exited Plex Server and removed it from startup via it's options and msconfig
2. Used Revo uninstaller to remove Plex Server.  Deleted related registry keys and files once uninstalled
3. Restarted computer
4. Searched C: for "plex" - didn't find anything but Home Theater files
5. Downloaded & installed Plex Server (newest release) to default path

Once installed, it opened the web interface.  I set up a single library with Home Movies only and installed a single channel.  At the main interface, I open settings and select Server, then Show Advanced Options.  In the section "The path where local application data is stored", I enter the path to a new, empty folder on a different drive then click Save.

Immediately to the right of the Save button the message "Your changes could not be saved" appears.

I've tried the following to fix:
- Performing steps above again to clean install, not setting up a library but skipping initial wizard, and setting path.  Same issue
- Making sure library update was not running
- Allowed library to perform complete update first
- Restarting
- Read issue happens when Plex interface is opened via hostname.  Mine opens via 127.0.0.1

I have it installed on Windows 7 x64 SP1 which is fully patched.

I'm at the point of just creating a symlink.  Any ideas?  Thanks

It's a common issue unfortunately - try using plex.tv/web instead of your local interface.

Seems more likely that you didn't actually get all the files removed and you're stuck in a weird state. The data directory is under a user folder that's hidden by default, so it wouldn't show up in a normal search. Our [uninstall instructions](https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201941078-Uninstall-Plex-Media-Server) detail how to do a full uninstall.

Thanks for the replies, guys.  Unfortunately, I had no luck.  I followed the official uninstall instructions exactly - except also removed the folder under Program Files, but got the same thing.  I also was able to log into Plex.TV/web, but options to configure the Server weren't available. :(

Any other ideas?  Is that setting in a registry key or ini file, perhaps? Thanks!

OK, I finally got it and other options to save.  I use Chrome as my default browser.  Instead of using it, I copied the link to IE where options saved successfully.  After doing so, Plex wouldn't open backup in Chrome so I Exited Plex, waited for exes to leave task manager, then started it backup again.  Once back up, I launched Media Manager from Plex, itself which lauched it in my default browser (Chrome.)

When viewed, the changes saved in IE were there.  Hope it all works now :)

Such problems were Browser related in most cases. Not sure why though and Plex/Web team ought to comment on that

There are probably a few more

I have just loaded and installed my Plex Media Server on my QNap TS251+ I have been working on this for the last 5 days and was getting the same message on just about every Library I tried to load saying your changes could not be saved. I have been totally frustrated and bumped out on the energy and time and 15 minutes ago I loaded back up plex and it said update available download now so I did and installed it and as we speak I have my movies all loading now and music and pictures and all libraries saved and metadata coming in …I am stoked now can’t wait to have this baby up and running in my home. I am now running Version 1.12.2.4929 of Plex Media Server. Good job guys and gals I will be placing all over my house soon.
