I have a gigabit ethernet LAN with a very fast router (500 Mbps plus). I just started noticing this issue in the last month or so. I understand there are other threads on this, but I didn’t see anything specific to Apple TV and/or plex server running on a high-end iMac.
Direct Stream/Play are supposed to be web player settings, right? Any ideas on what I can do to prevent this error? I have seen on this error on 720p videos with bitrates of less than 1500 Kbps.
I too have experienced the same thing, many times, on my very fast home local network (using a gigabit router). However, this has been an issue reported to the plex team for maybe 2 years or longer. There is another post on here with many, many replies. Plex has been ignoring the problem for years. Not even responding to people. Pretending like it’s not an issue.
Just wanted to give you a heads up that this probably won’t get fixed anytime soon, if ever.
Which version of Apple TV? 4th gen only has 10/100 Ethernet, FWIW, but it can connect to wifi much faster. I’d try hooking both up to the router via wired connection and trying again, or at least connect the server to gigabit, and the Apple TV to wifi (5Ghz).
@JPamplin I have Apple TV 4K with the gigabit ethernet port. Running speedtest in the apple tv app shows me near 1GB download and 200MB upload speeds. I am pretty sure that is fast enough The issue seems to be with Plex server application, or the Apple TV Plex app maybe. Not sure what to check here or how to fix this problem.
I have the same problem also. I literally just bought the ATV4K and set it up. I get the ‘connection to sever isn’t fast enough’ after about 20sec of play on pretty much everything on the server. Even lowering the quality in the enhanced player doesn’t fix it.
I’ve tried playing it on iOS, Win10 and OSX and all plays perfectly fine on full original quality (iphone, imac, MBP and PC)
PMS is running on a QNAP NAS which is wired to my router. All other devices are on Wifi.
The issue seems to be with Plex server application, or the Apple TV Plex app maybe. Not sure what to check here or how to fix this problem.
