Youtube app dont appear

Hello guys,

Maybe someone can help me…
I cant see my youtube icon anymore in my Apple TV.
What could be?

Your ATV model (2 or 3) and firmware version (found under the ATV settings > general > about > Apple TV software): ATV 3, 6.0.2 (6646.81.1)
The DNS server set on the ATV (found under the ATV settings > general > network > DNS): 192.168.1.85
The device and operating system (including version number) that PlexConnect is installed on: Windows 7 Ultimate (6.1 build 7601: Service Pack 1)
The local IP address of the device that PlexConnect is installed on: 192.168.1.85
The device and operating system (including version number) that the Plex media server (PMS) is installed on: Windows 7 Ultimate (6.1 build 7601: Service Pack 1)
The Plex media server (PMS) version number you are running (do not put ‘latest’): Version 2.4.9
The local IP address of the device that the Plex media server (PMS) is installed on: 192.168.1.85
The PlexConnect version number. If using Github source then a time and date of download (look at the creation date of the folder): 0.5-dev (March 28, 2015 at 11:19 PM)

Check your native aTV settings.app and ensure it not hidden.

Thank you for your reply buddy.
That was the 1st thing that I did… Is not hidden.
Any more ideas?

Well, this is weird, I checked again to confirm at 100% that is not hidden and the youtube doesn’t appear there either

P.S. Is better to reset or restore?
If I restore I think that AppleTV installs last version. There is no problem to use Plex Connect after?

Not sure if its still supported on that low of an iOS 6.0.2 you may need to update:

If you do update just switch DNS to auto, check for update, update then switch back to manual DNS/upload certs etc to get PlexConnect working again.

Thank you for the update, I didnt know that.

Cant say for sure, I have had issues on the newer iOS (7) 8. Others have not:

ATV enters perpetual buffering during video

Thank you buddy.

Unfortunately is very risky to update my AppleTV version…
I only use AppleTV to use Plex Connect…

Maybe someone else can give me here their feedback, to know if PlexConnect works fine with AppleTV last version.

youtube on iOS 6:

No PlexConnect issues with latest iOS:

https://forums.plex.tv/topic/123791-plex-plexconnect-and-openplex-working-on-apple-tv-version-thread/?p=940271

It works, yes, but it may produce the perpetual buffering problem if, and only if:

  1. DirectPlay is used (no problem with DirectStream or Transcoding)
  2. Dolby Digital is active (no problem if DD is disabled)
  3. Ethernet is used (no problem if wifi used)

The buffering problem is annoying, but the interrupted film can be resumed after an ATV reboot.

Yeah, but this is not limited to the "latest"... it somehow started with the first aTV/iOS7, if I remember correctly.

Divvy: If you don't want to update... how about the Plex YouTube plugin. Wouldn't look as nice, but might work for watching occasionally.

I wonder if you reset the aTV to factory settings without updating the firmware if the youtube app would reappear, maybe its just a fluke? According to this link it says it only effects aTV2's

Because aTV2 won't get updated to iOS7. Nobody is meant to still run iOS6 on an aTV3... :-D

Thank you for your replies guys

How do I install Plex Youtube plugin?

Well… this is BIG reasons to not update…
I dont use Direcplay, only Transcoding…
Dolby Digital is more or less important.
Ethernet is VERY important, I cant use wifi because I need very good speeds.

Do you guys know when this will be fixed?

Thank you once again!!

If you don't use DirectPlay probably you will never suffer from the perpetual buffering problem. So far nobody reported that problem when transcoding (or DirectStream) are used.

It's Ok to use transcoding + DD + Ethernet.

Rock Star, thank you for your reply!!

Are you sure about that?

I just need to use PlexConnect without problems.
I only use hd movies (with Dolby Digital sound) and external subtitles, always with ethernet for best speed.

Do you think that I can upgrade without any problems?

Do you use any native (non transcoded) files? E.g. .mp4 or .m4v.

Hey guys, already updated my AppleTV to last version. No issues found

Thank you my friends
