Zain’s Feature Request 3 - Bypass the watchlist preplay screen when discovery is turned off

Server Version#: 1.30.1.6562
Player Version#: 9.14.0.37895

Everyone is my family has asked me why they need to select the server when using the watchlist when there is only one server anyway. Wouldn’t plex know to select it for them?

In addition to that, the fact that a separate watchlist pre-play screen is shown and then jumps in to my actual server’s pre-play screen is very confusing for people. Why must they access two pre-play screens when they access the content through watchlist but only one pre-play screen when accessing the content from any other parts of the application

The Watchlist (aka “Universal Watchlist”) is built around Plex’ Discover feature. Discover is focusing on finding movies/shows/persons from various sources (based on your preferences). That’s the “watchlist replay screen” you’re mentioning. It’ll show you where that media is available for streaming – from your own server, a shared server or another streaming service.

Hence the 2 steps.
There’s been a feature suggestion to allow playing a video straight from the discovery details page. Though other users have argued they actually want to be offered the Where to Watch options (instead of going straight to a potentially lower-quality local version).

I absolutely understand all of that. I’m just hoping that while the watchlist feature is catering towards the discovery feature, that it can also be built in such a way to cater for those who completely turn off discovery (as I have) and only have my one own Plex server as an option in the watchlist. In such a case where I only have one server and one option, would be great if my watchlist behaved like a watchlist behaves on Netflix, Disney+ etc. For when you have more than one server and platform option in the watchlist, then yes, I agree with the current approach

If discovery is turned off and only one server exists then go straight to that server’s Pre play screen else go to watchlist preplay screen

I suggest you comment/vote in the feature suggestion I’ve linked above.
