I am perplexed(!). I am running plex media server on a home network as well as several instances of plex media player and 1 plex for windows.
I recently got a 144hz 3440x1440 ultrawide monitor and thought watching films would be easy without black bars (as it is in VLC and MPC-HC) but I could not find an option running the server to zoom the image to full screen mode which left me, as said, perplexed. To be clear, there is nothing wrong with film or monitor they are both the correct and same aspect ratios, itās just the film by default only uses a aprt of the screen instead of all of it.
In VLC, choosing cropping gets my whole screen used up and in MPC itās pan and scan ā ultrawide monitor.
In Plex server I find no such settings.
In Plex for windows I also find no such settings
In Plex media player, I do find the option, but only in TV mode (Settings > Video > Video aspect = zoom). Oh and the Z key which cycles through modes. And by the way I had to spend 15 mins in google looking at where this option was
And stranger still is if I switch back to normal mode, the zoom persists, but there is still no option to change it here??
Am I an odd user for wanting to upscale my 21:9 films to use my 3440x1440 monitor. I donāt understand why this is so tricky in this day and age. Am I missing something obvious?
Iād love to see an official response for this and if it is a known thing without anything in the works or with something in the works - If the player can do it in TV mode, I dont see why the player couldnt do it in normal mode as well as why the server version should not be able to do it.
Zoom for ultrawide is the only feature I installed Plex Media Player for. And ā10ft UIā in TV mode looks awful when Iām sitting 2ft from monitor.
If it were available in the desktop app (Plex for Windows), that would improve user experience so much.
This has been bugging me for years now.
Canāt watch my Movies on my Desktop.
I have Dual monitors one 3440x1440 and one 1920x1080.
I transcode my Movies to Remove the Black bars (unneeded data) Plex on Shield will work flawless, Plex for Windows cuts off parts of the movie and zooms in wierd waysā¦
really bugs me i use plex for my media on everything the work around ive found is kodi with plex connect synced to my kodi library the only problem ive found is when kodi is updated it wont install come on the easy fix to this would be to give us the option on every plex setup otherwise i love plex
