In my case, about half of the live TV channels brought into Plex server via the HD HomeRun tuner are at a lower resolution (Plex server shows 480i) and have a black area all the way around the material. The aspect ratio is correct though, and the material can be made to fill the screen using the zoom controls on the tv. The other half of the channels fill the screen without use of zoom (Plex server shows 720p for these channels). The channels that require zoom seem to always be broadcast in 480i (in other words, it doesn’t vary by program). It would be really nice if there was a function within Plex server to specify crop and zoom to be applied for certain live tv channels before streaming out the content, eliminating the need to constantly adjust the tv zoom controls depending on channel. Is there such a weapon that I have simply overlooked?
