I have followed all the instructions on the forum to setup multi-user access on the Xbox One (I am a plex pass subscriber) and yet, every couple of days, my son cannot access Plex on the Xbox One as it is asking for a link code/pin to be entered.
If I enter the ccode, everything works fine for a few days then the same thing happens again.
I havent managed to track down any pattern yet, but a few thoughts are:
Are you linking the same Plex account to another Xbox user? This will currently cause the previous user to become unlinked, and will require them to link their Plex account again the next time they launch the app with their Xbox account.
I have multiple accounts on the Xbox (for me and my kids). Xbox is set to automatically sign in with my account as default, and straight to TV. I only ever use plex from my account - if my son has been using the Xbox I’ll sign out of his account first.
I have multiple users on plex - I have a PIN protected account with access to all content, each of my kids has a non-PIN account with content restricted based on their ages.
It has been working fine up until maybe 2 weeks ago when it started constantly promoting me.

Moussa,
If I understand you correctly, you are saying that every time a different user uses Plex from the Xbox, it will require a re-link. Is that correct?
If so, this seems a bit mad, as the Xbox automatically logs users on, based on face recognition if the Kinect is setup to do this, and then just starting Plex on the Xbox could require a re-link depending on which user was recognised first by the Kinect.
Please take a read through that. You can only link a single Xbox Live account to a single Plex.tv account. That means if you have 2 gamertags that you are trying to use with a single plex.tv account, you will encounter this problem as each time you log into a different one and you put in the pin it unlinks from the other gamertag.
Note: this currently only works with Plex.tv accounts, if you have a managed account setup via Plex Home the user will not be able to sign in on Xbox as User Switching is not implemented.
I have the same issue , I have moved away from windows media center and now have 4 xbox’s around the house as the media distributer’s , I thought plex would be a good replacement for media center how ever every night i want to use plex from a different xbox, i need to do the pin.tv pairing and i have also noticed if the xbox is not online or dsl is down i cant use plex for my local stored content. As per Rumik question , Is there a fix planned for this ?
Yes I have multiple xbox’s + ATV3/4s + ipad/iphones running Plex and get this issue quite a lot. The sad thing is after huge amounts of time over the years on HTPC variations, much of it with Plex, since getting Amazon Prime a few months ago, that’s all my kids use. I asked them why they don’t use Plex anymore and they just said “oh it never works properly.” In fact I just asked my daughter and her exact words were:-
Me: “Do you still use Plex?”
Her: “No” + head shake
Me: “Why not?”
Her “Because it’s got a code”
Personally I use Kodi on ATV4 as I have Live-TV via ServerWMC on it also. I use nfo metadata for all files so Kodi + Plex are consistent. Obviously Plex is better integrated working on xbox/ipads for kids + has simpler interface, but this pin/code ‘feature’ relegates it to the dustbin of HTPC history. Shame!
I’m posting this as I just had to update the pin again on one of the xbox’s!
Same here. 3 xboxes in the house, multiple gamertags, kids signing in all over the place. Nearly every time I turn my xbox on to watch plex, I have to re-link. Why is there a requirement to have a distinct plex pass account per xbl account? Can you PLEASE add support for multiple linked xbl accounts to a single plex pass?
Ran into this this week after setting my son up with his profile. What a pain, it essentially makes Plex on XBOX useless, a tadge ironic considering its roots.
There has to be a way to correct this behaviour, after all my son can play all my purchased games, no need for additional hopes everytime.
Just chiming in it’s happening to us too–my wife and I use the xbox one, and who knows who we’re logged in as when we go to Plex. It really is quite a pain to get that link prompt all the time…
So I have just downloaded my Xbox profile I use primarily on that specific xbox device and I have not been asked for a pin. I also have it set to auto-login on that device. I will do the same on the other Xboxes with my father’s account and my son’s account and let you know how it goes.
This has just started happening to me, before it would be after an update much as it was annoying I could handle it… but now its just a nightmare, everyone in the family, wife and kids have just given up on using it which is a shame and a stress for me as I have to constantly log them back in. I can’t give them my user info because the whole point is to have use of parental controls. I know there is a thread somewhere of several hoops you had to jump through in the past but its really too much.
I love Plex and my xbox one, its our main entertainment system, setup with individual profiles for the use of parental controls etc. Like others have pointed out it takes time and a lot of effort to convince family members a to use these things and how to use them… unlike us techie types who thrive on the enjoyment of learning and using new apps and software, most normal people live with a throwaway one use attitude, if it doesn’t work for them they just stop using it. please please please can you fix this.
