Dealing with metadata changes in Music

I am just now getting my music library into PLEX. In the process I’m finding lots of files that need to be edited to change their metadata. Things that might change include Album Artist, album name, etc.

So I’m looking at an artist or album that needs fixing. I go to the file and change it. Now I need to update PLEX.

What does that?

I’ve tried “Refresh Metadata” and that seldom does anything. I’ve tried “Scan Library Files” and that does nothing.

How do I get PLEX to change the metadata values on media that is already in the library? Refreshing library files seem to work great on movies and TV shows. No problem. But that is at the file name level. What makes PLEX replace the metadata it has with the new metadata? I mean other than removing the file, scan the library, put it back and repeat the scan?

Unfortunately, you need to perform the Plex Dance “light” (with music, step 4 can be omitted)

Good grief. Hey PLEX, want to build in an automated process for this? “Re-Scan Metadata” or something?

It isn’t that they need to build a new process, they just need to make the existing Refresh Metadata command do what it’s supposed to.

True. It would seem that a command to “Refresh Metadata” would refresh the metadata.
