Alternative to removing library then cleaning bundles and adding it back again to refresh metadata

I am using the XBMC nfo scraper so it only uses local data

When I make a small change in let’s say an episode’s description or title and i hit refresh metadata nothing happens. Analyze show doesn’t do nothing either.

The only way I can actually update the metadata properly is to delete the entire library, then empty trash & clean bundles and then add the library back in. This is an awful lot of work just to refresh the metadata for one episode…

Shouldn’t there be a better way to do this?

The Plex Dance

That works too, but again is a lot of work just for a small refresh, what actually does the “refresh metadata” button anyway?

This is a long-standing complaint that I have been crusading against for several years now.

Part of the problem is that many tagging tools have the option (enabled by default in some apps) to preserve the ‘modified file date’ when they save tags to the media. Plex uses this date to decide whether to actually scan the file for metadata changes.

You could turn that option off, so when you change tags in the future, the file’s modified date will change, and Plex will re-scan it, but Plex really does need to change this, because you’re right, the ‘refresh metadata’ command doesn’t do what it’s supposed to do.

So basically it’s one of those things that will probably never get fixed… great >.<
