1.16.4.1469 crashes on Win 10

The latest version 1.16.4.1469 crashes very frequently. It becomes unresponsive, and when I mouse over the icon in the system tray, it just disappears. It can be restarted and runs for a while.

I have it installed on a Windows 10 Pro machine which is dedicated to Plex. It’s an Intel i9-9990K with 16GB RAM, so it’s not running out of resources or anything like that.

What is it doing at the time of crashing?

I’m not 100% it isn’t doing a background library scan or some other maintenance task, but it seems like it’s doing nothing. I start it and then some time later, when I try to access it from a client, it’s unresponsive, I go to the server host and see that it has crashed. This morning (in Europe) I restarted it an hour ago, and I just checked before responding here, that it has crashed again.

Okay. You will need to provide us with some logs.

  • Note : The next time you launch the application, the crash logs will be uploaded for aggregate analysis of crashes and will then be removed. Therefore, please retrieve the crash log prior to launching Plex Media Server again .

Thanks for checking. I’ve zipped the crash report folder from today and attached.1.16.4.1469-6d5612c2f.zip (30.2 KB)

I’m experiencing this exact same behavior on Windows Server 2019 - didn’t have this issue until installing 1.16.4.1469

The problem is still there in version 1.16.5.1488

Does anyone know if this crash issue is fixed in 1.16.5.1554? It’s not mentioned in the release notes. In the mean time, I’m running on 1.16.3.1402, which doesn’t crash.

The problem is still there in 1.16.5.1554. Staying on 1.16.3.1402

Any update? It’s still not fixed in the latest update

I have the same behavior. Running 1554 on Windows 10. But it’s been happening through several versions.

I sure don’t. My apologies.
The next time it does crash can you up the pms logs.

You can use the Easily Gather Logs

Are these different from the logs, I uploaded earlier in the thread?

Yes they are. The earlier logs were crash logs. I want to see what is going on at the time of the crash.

Thanks. I will re-install the latest version, let it crash and send the logs. Stay tuned.

I had my first ever PMS crash under 1.16.5.1554 yesterday.
ATM I’m not going to panic. It could have been something I was doing - 'cause I was doing about 5 things at the time and all of them had the CPU up against the wall doing a deep cavity search…

I’ll keep an eye on it…

Really. You’ve been a long time user of PMS. Would you like to up your logs aswell?

EDIT: For those who misread my post. I am referring to a user that has never experienced a crash in all the time they used PMS. Not that some people get better/more treatment than others.

I can actually think of many things I’d rather be doing…
I will keep an eye on it…

Yeah… I know what you mean. I find it most frustrating troubleshooting my own problems. I rather fix other people stuff!

Don’t go anywhere - I’ll let you put me up on the lift after while - you silly man…
(sooner if I get another PMS crash)

lol
