1.23.0.4438 crash with HEVC files

Dear QNAP - Your latest updates suck. Please fix.

Dear Customer - whatever combination of hardware and software you have is not supported. Any suckage you’re experiencing is entirely your own fault.

ChuckPa is the only one who’s going to solve this.

Just tested on 1.23.0.4480 . Still broken. Suspest Qnap are going to need to fix the driver on their end. :confused:

I have already written 3 times to qnap, still have not replied.

with qts 4.5.3 and nvidia driver 5.0.2 my p2200 just doesn’t work at all.

total disaster.

The problem is that the update to qts is necessary to close the security holes.

Here i found a discussion on the qnap forum.

"I just installed the new firmware 4.5.3.1652 build 20210428

After update transcoding over GPU did not work

Before update

gpuhal_app -l
0:Intel Corporation:8th Gen Core Processor Gaussian Mixture Model:internal:2
1:NVIDIA Corporation:GP106GL [Quadro P2000]:external:7

gpuhal_app -s 1
active_status=2,real_status=2,driverqpkg=NVIDIA_GPU_DRV**,driver_installed=1**,in_used=none,transcode=1,display=1,pcie_slot=1,pcie_vp=1

After update

[~] # gpuhal_app -l
0:Intel Corporation:8th Gen Core Processor Gaussian Mixture Model:internal:2
1:NVIDIA Corporation:GP106GL [Quadro P2000]:external:7
[~] # gpuhal_app -s l
active_status=2,real_status=2,driverqpkg=None,driver_installed=1,in_used=HD_Station,transcode=1,display=1,pcie_slot=-1,pcie_vp=0,va_type=i965

It seems for me the problem comes from driverqpkg=None

Made a rollback and new support ticket for qnap"

To All Following Here:

  1. We solved the Nvidia GT-series driver problem.
  2. I rewrote a large chunk of the packaging:
    a. PMS 1.23.0 now respects Container & Virtualization Station modes
    b. I support both QNAP’s old method of Nvidia driver install (/opt/NVIDIA_GPU_DRV) and /share/*/.qpkg/NVIDIA_GPU_DRV which is introduced in QTS 4.5.3.1562 – mandatory update to Drivers 5.0.2)
    c. Notice the wildcard. –
    d. This means - MD0 , CACHEDEV1, or ZFS1 volume names are now supported. Yes, this is formal packaging support for QuTS with Nvidia GPU cards. :stuck_out_tongue: :rofl:

@ilboss

If you go into the package itself /share/*/.qpkg/NVIDIA_GPU_DRV
ls -la

You should see the .uninstall script

It’ll help you unscrew the mess going on with that installation.

To All:

P-series GPUs

  1. We suspect (which is 100% logical) the same type problem exists with the P2000/P400, etc cards

  2. This is 100% dependent on the QNAP drivers actually working .

  3. If anyone can confirm for me please:
    a. PMS 1.22.x ,
    b. QTS 4.5.3.1563 (the new release)
    c. NVIDIA_GPU_DRV 5.0.2 (required with with the QTS upgrade)
    d. NVIDIA Pxxxx gpu card.

I would be greatly appreciative.

====

It is known – The status information display on the hardware page is broken.

Our lab TS-877 w/ GT-1050 shows :

  1. 0 memory
  2. 0 fan speed
  3. 0 beers remaining

but still transcodes just fine with the corrections in 1.23.0.4480.

We’re going as fast as we can. A lot collided here:

  1. PMS 1.23.0
  2. QTS 4.5.3 upgrades for folks (which moved the drives all around and BROKE QNAP’s information links so I could find the drivers)
  3. Mandatory upgrade to 5.0.2 (new Nvidia 440.82, 10.2 drivers internally)

Can roll back to 1.22 and test again no probs, I archive the old plex installers.

But yeah, what you’ve listed is definitely the case for me.

@Gouldin

If you can, great but don’t break the world.

I am 99.99999% confident we’re still on the right path and am only looking to confirm this.

Confirming 1.23.0.4480 solves the transcoding issues on Quts Hero 4.5.2.1638, .NvKernelDriver 4.5.2.1638, Nvidia GPU Driver 4.0.2, Nvidia GTX-1650

Thanks

@broncogr

Congrats, your QuTS hero system is one step closer to being officially supported

:rofl:

Happy to test betas for you so that hero gets officialy supported at some point

My final reservation with Hero is how it behaves when it’s loaded up to the max with media files.

If you wish, I can send you my test zip file. It contains over 800 full Television series.
On our Hero system, it dogged but we don’t have it ‘full up’.
If Hero runs well (quick, responsive, and correct) with that load, I will bless it

---- will discuss elsewhere

Just managed to test on 1.22 with transcoding enabled. that still works fine.
Dropping onto 1.23 it dies with hardware transcode enabled.

That’s on 4.5.3, Quadro P400 and 5.0.2 driver.

Hi!

This is my setup

PMS 1.22.3.4392
TVS-1282 4.5.3.1652
NVIDIA_GPU_DRV 5.0.2
NVIDIA P2000

PMS is installed in a container, I understand that the problem only occurs with the QPKG version? because i start a HEVC video without crash or other problems direct play and transcode it in a docker PMS.

Regards.

@surinas1

The problem occurs with 1.23.0.
What you show does largely confirm that we are still on the right path.

If the new QTS & drivers were the sole root problem, QPKG -or- Docker would not matter.

There is definitely something in there. That’s what we’re tracking now.

Ok I will be attentive to test if they launch a beta with a patch for P-series GPUs

I will announce when there is a build available.
I’ll likely have it as we find it internally.
I will build here locally and share.

this is Qnap’s answer !!!

“Dear Customer,

thank you for contacting QNAP technical support.

The video card you are using is not in the compatibility list of your NAS model:

Elenco di compatibilità - QNAP

For all devices not on the list, QNAP does not guarantee perfect operation or full operability.

Could you please confirm if you continue to experience the anomaly even using a compatible GPU?

I am waiting for your reply.

Thank you.”

Well, they acknowledged it for me. So a glimmer of hope?

Hi Michael,

Thanks for contacting QNAP Support,

Yes looks like there is a bug with the latest firmware, you will need to manually downgrade the firmware to the previous version for the time being and check the notes of the firmware to see if the issue has been resolved in the next firmware, apologies for this.

To manually downgrade the firmware please follow the below steps.

Please install QFinder pro from the below link.

Once installed, run and the NAS will be displayed, then download the firmware for the NAS from the below link and unzip to your PC.

https://download.qnap.com/Storage/TS-XA73/TS-XA73_20210406-4.5.2.1630.zip

Then right click the NAS in Qfinder Pro and select update firmware, login as admin and then select the firmware .img file you unzipped and click update, allow to complete to 100%, refresh QFinder Pro and try logging in as admin in the web ui.

Then check if the issue is resolved, thanks.

Here I am,
qnap liquidated me.

"Hello,

thank you for the feedback.

Don’t hesitate to contact us in case you need further support in the future.

The ticket is placed in closing.

A greeting."

We are all in the hands of ChuckPA alone.

In the meantime, I recommend not updating to QTS 4.5.3 for now (with nvidia driver 5.0.2 required) and therefore staying on qts 4.5.2 / Nvidia driver 4.0.2.
