1.41.8.9834 version on Synology

Server Version#:1.41.8.9834
Player Version#:
Currently I have the Plex Pass and plex server installed on Synology 920+ with 1.41.7.9799 version.

I read some bad experiences regarding the 1.41.8.9834 new update

My question is quite simple:
what are the problems on user experiences with this new version ?

I need just to browse my libraries and play TV Show & movies.

Not TV Direct or recording.

.8 fixes corrupt databases from the .7 series, the process and take the server offline for awhile

You can always look up the release notes to see what has been fixed in the latest release.

i m not sure to understand your answers
but do you advice to install that update or not

Not sure what you read or where you read it.

Without specifics it is impossible to answer your questions.

I have 1.41.8 installed on my DS918+ and it is working without any issues.

Question: Did you install any of the 1.41.7 beta releases on your NAS.

If yes, please check the size of the Plex database files. Are they abnormally large, gigabytes instead of megabytes in size?

The database files are located in the /Plug-in Support/Databases folder in the Plex Data Folder. You can view their size using Synology File Station.

sorry for my message.

I read on another PLEX forum in french a guy was complaining about big regressions on this update.

Differents problems was relating on change on User experience behaviors, and problem with TV DIrect / recording modes.

Before to upgrade I wanted to know if these problems are true or not.

If you didnt see any differences, just share this

thanks

I stream movies & shows from my server. That works fine. I do not use live tv/dvr.

The PMS 1.41.7 beta builds had a bug that causes massive database growth. Database files that are normally a few hundred megabytes grew to tens or hundreds of gigabytes. This affected Plex on all platforms, not just Synology.

PMS 1.41.8 has a fix to shrink the database back to normal size. It happens when Optimize Database runs as a scheduled task. While the process runs the Plex server will be non-responsive (no streaming). It may also take many hours to complete on systems with low power CPUs such as Synology & other NAS. Here is a very long thread with all the details: Library.db size more than doubled in latest version

That may also be what the person was complaining about.

So, should you update?

If you ran 1.41.7 beta builds, check the size of your database files. If they are abnormally large, 1.41.8 will remove the bloat.

Otherwise, check the release notes and see if there are any new features/fixes you need.
