1.7.5 still not tuner-savvy.

Another test today with the latest PMS release and a new HDHR Extend (total of 4 tuners now). Wishful thinking that Plex DVR could detect ALL of the available tuners. Alas, no. Picked the two available on HDHR #1, and failed to find the available tuner on HDHR #2. One tuner there was being used by the Amazon Fire TV HDHomeRun app. As someone put it, “Sad”.

I’m sure in some setups, the DVR functionality is working well- I’m experiencing the same feelings as you however to the point where I would consider it perhaps alpha release. The tuners I’m using, with other apps, work pretty well. I am looking forward to the next Plex update too.

Generally speaking, plex assumes all tuners are allocated for its use, and it’s use only. Granted, when a tuner is in use it should go to the next, but lets face it, this is a beta release. Bugs are expected

Prior versions were better at utilizing available tuners. Starting with one of the 1.7.x releases I started seeing issues with multiple recordings. If I had 2 scheduled recordings everything was fine both tuners of one of my Connects would be used. If I had a third recording it would fail. I have another Connect, a Dual, and a Prime all configured in DVR. None of the other devices had recordings, nor were they being used by other applications. Plex would basically report that no tuners were available. I have since reverted back to 1.6.1 and can record more than 2 recordings at the same time again.

Just curious as to what firmware version is being run by those with SiliconDust HDHomeRun tuners.

Beyond that, if I wanted to use something like two or more HDHomeRun tuners in a Plex DVR configuration and couldn’t get them to work concurrently, I would probably run one in Plex and try the SiliconDust DVR software for the others.

Right now I run Plex DVR with a HDHomeRun Prim that I recently bought but I consider this a test setup. I run another HDHomeRun Prime and two HDHomeRun Dual (older white) units with other software that is easier to use (proven reliable with Wife approval)

As much as like Plex DVR and enjoy watching it’s progress we all have to admit it’s very much beta software.

All of my tuners have the most recent (non Beta) version of the firmware.

I am able to get all of the tuners to work concurrently using Plex version 1.6.1. Something in the 1.7 series of releases seems to have broken the ability for multiple tuners to be utilized by Plex DVR.

I may remove Plex and my current database/configuration and reinstall the latest version, rebuild my DVR and setup recording schedule. Problem with doing that at this time of the year is finding all the shows we watch, I know several are not currently airing and don’t currently have any repeat airings so can’t schedule those shows for recordings since they are not in the Program Guide.

Ah, it seems that 1.7.x is the culprit, then? When I last reported this, I was running 1.7.1. I downgraded to 1.6.1 and didn’t bother testing with that version. Upgraded to 1.7.5 and ran the test again. LCD is the 1.7.x release. As a software developer, I can see ‘collateral damage’, ie., sections of code not related to the latest fixes that are now not working. But this is not a piece of coding off in a seldom-used corner of the app. Finding an available tuner is somewhat mainstream for a DVR-like application. Yes, beta. No, not tested against the rails. Perhaps a full regression test is needed for every major release. Just my opinion – not to be construed as fact.

I’m using Firmware version 20170612beta1 on the HDHomeRun Prime that is configured with Plex DVR. This firmware upgrade fixed an issue whereby scheduled recordings would drop at 6 min and 6 seconds (6:06).

I don’t doubt that there are newly introduced issues with Plex as it progresses.

One feature I would like to see is the ability to backup and restore the “Recorded TV Schedule” for Plex DVR. I was thinking about this the other day when I was considering moving the HDHomeRun Prime from my Synology NAS with Plex Media Server to my Windows Server 2012 Essentials server with Plex Media Server.

Still this is beta and one expects a specific amount of pain with beta software.

We all want the coveted Wife approval factor to be really high but then again whoeverith subjects their Wife to beta software tempts the wrath of the wife.
