After upgrading to 1.9.6 one channel (26.1 KRIV) immediately fails when starting to record and returns the error “transcoding failure”. I tested a couple of other channels and they recorded fine. I tried deleting and adding the channel and restarting PMS. Reverting to 1.9.5 corrected the problem. Logs attached.
I’m seeing the same problem unable to tune and record to the same channel.
Same issue here plus black screen with audio on all channels.
When you can’t record the channel are you still able to watch it live?

I reinstalled 1.9.6 to test as I don’t normally use Live TV with Plex. With Live TV I get audio only, no video on all channels, including the channel I could not record (abort with transcoder error). I tried it on both the web player and a Roku with the same result.
I again tried to record 26.1 KRIV and it won’t record. I could record another channel, but when I tried to play it back I get audio only and no video.
New logs attached of this exercise.
Correction to the previous post. Some channels that will record have video, other don’t.

The issue of audio but no video is being fixed shortly. It has been seen on mpeg2 channels.
Plex Pass Beta release 1.9.6.4401 is now available. It has a fix for the no video issue
See http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1549008/#Comment_1549008
- (DVR) Video streams that were getting lost during recording have been found again (#7637) (#7758)

Thank you. Will give it a try when I have a chance.
I still have the same recording fail on channel 26.1 with release 1.9.6.4401. I reverted back to 1.9.5.4339 which works fine.

I don;t think i have seen any server logs from you of the issue
First investigation steps would be through logs. For a problem of this nature, it may be necessary to do try the tune request through curl and see what gets returned. But first it is logs

I reproduced the recording aborted problem on channel 26.1 with server 1.9.6.4401. My system is running on Windows 10.

I can’t use the beta until the issue with 26.1 is fixed and I haven’t seen any updates on that. My logs earlier in the thread have that issue in it as well.
@sa2000 Any status updates on the issue? I know 1.9.5.4339 works so maybe that would help to determine what’s changed. What curl command could I use to test response?
The logs show an error when testing hardware transcoding and switching to software. There have been changes in this area in the new Plex Pass Beta release 1.9.7.4441 and I would like to see logs from that version please
The request that is used for the grab is http://192.168.0.112:5004/auto/v26.1
You could try that in curl eg
curl http://192.168.0.112:5004/auto/v26.1 > grab26-1.ts
We could check if codecs were in place - but best to to try and troubleshoot on 1.9.7.4441 being the current PP beta release with lots of bug fixes - including hardware/software transcoding tests
If you get the failure on 1.9.7.4441 please get the logs and also do a grab using curl for 1 minute - break in on it after 1 minute
and get a listing of the files / dates/ sizes of the codecs folder - which for 1.9.7 should be in
C:\Users\cle\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Codecs\a10855e-1258-windows-i386
@sa2000
After plex server 1.9.7.4441 started, the first recording on 26.1 worked fine. See Plex Media Server.1.log at:
Nov 11, 2017 09:00:00.078 [20048] DEBUG - DVR:Grabber: Starting operation for ‘Xploration Earth 2050 - E10 - Episode 10’.
I reproduced the problem with the second recording on 26.1. See Plex Media Server.log for failure starting at:
Nov 11, 2017 18:30:00.429 [6384] DEBUG - DVR:Grabber: Starting operation for ‘FOX College Football Extra - Episode 11-11’.
The curl grab produced a good 128 MB ts file. See attached for logs and codecs list.
Any updates? I found that as long as I don’t tune to channel 26.1 live after Plex server started then recordings have been successful.
Apologies @lecplex I missed the forum thread update notification from 12th November
Will have a look now
Had an initial look. There were 3 recordings
The 09:00am for 30 minutes
There was also live tv session started at 18:09
and there was the 18:30 one.
Will pick up later this evening and see what happened for the 18:09 one and then the error on the 18:30
Thanks. It seems the live session is the key since my recordings have been fine after I restarted the server and not watch live.
