1 Entire season of a show jitters only on LG SM8600PUA

Server Version#: 1.18.0.1846
Player Version#: 4.9.0 WEBOS 4.6.0

I am running into a problem with 1 entire season of a show constantly jitters through the entire playback. no other episodes have done this and i have not seen it on anything else. If i re-encode those files again the problem stops, if i optimize the videos the same problem happens on the optimize unless i pick a quality lower than what is there then it seems to re-encode it enough to make the problem go away. The problem only happens on this TV, i have tried it on Roku’s, fire sticks, and android phones that i own and it is not showing the problem. I am sure it is just something with the encode however i would like to be able to figure out what it is about it that isn’t making it work in case it is a bug in plex or web os that needs to get resolved. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, can you please post one of shows xml file found from left bottom ellipsis/ info.

Are you using Wifi for this TV? Try a different Channel in your router.

i am hard wired on the TV, no issues playing any other files including much higher quality and bit rates. The video has a non stop large jitter while playing it. Here is an example of one of the episodes. It has 2 files, the original (jittering one) which is the first in the xml file and the the optimized one (works fine) second one in the xml.

xml.txt (4.7 KB)

In the TV affected app setting. What H.264 level is set?

The first file bit rate is about double the second file.

That’s because the second file is the optimized version.

I wonder if it is one of those weirdly muxed files.

Here is a test:
download MKVtoolnixGUI and install it
drag your original (unoptimized) mp4 file into it and click ‘Start Multiplexing’
put the resulting MKV file into your library and test playback

Do you actually need those closed captions in the file?
I wonder if these have an influence on the issue.

at first i thought it might be because the h264 level is 3.2 however i have tested that with other files and they play fine, most of my content is at least level 5 though. I will give the tool a shot, i do not need he captions, i can try to rip those out as well.

A lower H.264 level is never a reason for playback failure.
It is only a sign for higher compatibility with older players (and a less-efficient compression).

just tried after muxing into a mkv and same problem.

Did you disable the eia_608 track during muxing?

I didn’t see any subtitle tracks in the list. I think actually picked one that didn’t have a subtitle track to begin with

Upon further inspection the track is still there. Mkvtoolnix is not showing in the track listing to remove. Any other thoughts on how to remove it

Maybe SOLUTION: EIA_608 Subtitles Suck - Here's how to automatically replace them with srt goodness
but it’s a little involved.

looks like i got them removed with ffmpeg

ffmpeg -i input.mkv -codec copy -bsf:v "filter_units=remove_types=6" output.mkv

I ran it on the original mp4 and I confirmed on the new xml that it is gone. playback still jitters though

Could you make a snippet of this video (~50MB) and upload it to e.g. GDrive and then send me the link?
Please confirm that the snippet still exhibits the jittering when played on your tv.
I’d like to forward it to the developers.

just sent you the link in PM. i tested it and it still jitters

Thanks, I forwarded the sample and filed a bug report.

Thank you. Did you have an LG to test it on. I am curious if it happens on other models and such. It seems like there is just something off with the encoding and other devices just handle the problems better but who knows.

No, I don’t have such a TV to test with.
The only odd thing I noticed is a ludicrously high number in the ‘Maximum frame rate’ tag of 16,000,000 FPS

Can you enable ‘debug’ logging on the server
(don’t enable ‘verbose’ logging!)
Then stop and restart the server
then enable debug logging on the TV as well
https://support.plex.tv/articles/216955788-logging-for-smart-tvs-tivo/

and play the file for ~ 1 minute
Then wait 1 minute and fetch logs from the server
https://support.plex.tv/articles/200250417-plex-media-server-log-files/

and either send them to me or simply drop the zip into here.
