Sorry to ask a well-worn question, but I still haven’t seen an answer that resolves my issue. I have a lifetime Plex Pass. The users I’ve added are able to watch media from my shares with no trouble. None of them have paid for the app or paid for Plex Pass. One of them reported yesterday that is he now getting a “1 minute playback limit” on his iPhone after weeks of watching with no problems. He does not have a new phone, and nothing at his end nor at my end has changed. Does anyone have a clue as to what is going on with this particular user? Thanks.
Your users do not get “free” access to IOS/Android apps just because your server has plexpass
They must personally have plexpass, or purchase the app with a one-time payment
Hmmm…I wonder why it’s been working for him until this point. Maybe he’s been in a trial mode that has now expired? Does Plex offer that? Anyway, thanks for the quick reply. I’ll tell him.
Are your users a part of your Plex Home? If they are, they should have the ability to use the apps as a part of your Plex Pass. If they are only added as friends, then they would have to purchase the app.
Perhaps for some reason they have left your Plex Home if that’s how it was originally setup?
They’re all added as “Friends,” but, come to think of it, I think they’ve all been watching on smart TVs and laptops. I’ll add this particular user to “Home” and see if he’s able to resume watching. Thanks.
FYI: Plex Free vs Paid
- The Plex Media Server is free to use and includes the Plex Web App.
- All of our non-mobile, public apps are free. These include Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, Plex Media Player, Roku, Smart TVs, TiVo, and game consoles (PlayStation and Xbox).
- Our mobile apps (Android, iOS, Windows, Windows Phone) can be used for free, but have limitations.
- Until the mobile app is unlocked (through an in-app purchase or a Plex Pass subscription), video and music streamed from a Plex Media Server has a 1 minute limit, and photos will be watermarked.
FordGuy61, thanks for the thorough answer! I’ve read bits and pieces of that information in various threads, but not the whole thing summarized so succinctly. Much appreciated!
I paid $5 dollars for the Android app years ago, and now Plex is trying to get me to pay more money to listen to my own music on my own network. WTF Plex!
Same here, suddenly no playback in the paid Android app. Definitely broken, hopefully they fix this. Was considering getting the lifetime subscription - definitely on hold until this is fixed.
Solved for me - if you click on the activate there is a 8pt text with a link to reactivate if the app was already purchased, that restored the purchase for me.
