11/19 all evening recordings failed

I’ve been running Plex DVR for a while with very few problems. All of a sudden last night nothing recorded. The schedule screen for Yesterday still shows everything ready-to-go. But there are no recordings in the usual places. .grab is empty. Most recent logs are attached.

What type of tuner devices do you have?

I have an HDHomeRun Prime with 3 tuners. The unit worked fine last night at 10:00PM when my Silicondust DVR program recorded “The Walking Dead” on the same PC where Plex runs. Plex and SD DVR have been successfully co-habitating this PC for several months.

This appears to be the same problem that a couple of us have been having over at this recent thread:

With that said, the thing that we all have in common is that Plex is scheduled to record several episodes of the same show in one day (in our case NFL Football, and in your case Will & Grace), then it only records the first two and ignores the rest. For what it’s worth, I’m using a WinTV quadHD PCIe tuner in a dedicated Windows 10 1709 machine running 1.9.7.4460. However this also happened to me on version 1.9.6.4429.

This happened to me on 1.9.6 with Win 10 1709 as well. But on Friday night 11/17 the exact same set-up recorded 3 back-to-back Will & Grace episodes and a Seinfeld without error.

I’m not sure this is the same as late NFL games not recording. I believe that’s another issue. 2 Saturday Night Lives in one night failed for me a while ago in a similar way. Plex thought a 10PM SNL was “new” so it did not bother to record the 11:30PM version, which was also new, but actually a different episode.

I wonder if new “NFL Football” later in the day is getting omitted by Plex because it already recorded a new “NFL Football” at 1:00PM on the same day.

If this is the case then it is indeed a bug. My instance of NFL Football is set to record new and old episodes at any time on any channel and keep all recordings forever. I can find nothing in the settings that limit the number of episodes of a show that are recorded in a single day.

FWIW, I rebooted my PC and then updated to 1.9.7. Last evening (11/20) 8 shows recorded with no problems.

@cdcochrane Glad you are now getting recordings with 1.9.7.

@brentil I see a Price is Right recording that worked in your log so not sure what recording issue you are having.

I also see a bunch if messages about removing directories based on plexignore rule:
Nov 20, 2017 10:16:59.213 [1236] DEBUG - [Scanners.bundle] Removing directory due to plexignore rule (T:\Videos\TV\Charter/): T:\Videos\TV\Charter

Nov 20, 2017 10:16:59.217 [1236] DEBUG - [Scanners.bundle] Removing directory due to plexignore rule (T:\Videos\TV.grab/*): T:\Videos\TV.grab

If you are recording to these directories the recordings won’t show up because you told Plex to ignore the recording location.

It happened again, last night, 12/01. No night recordings and no information about what went wrong at the UI level, at least. The Odd Couple recorded successfully at 6:00PM, but for some reason Will & Grace and Seinfeld did not record later in the evening. Logs attached - please Plex Ninja(s) help me figure this one out!

Hmm, also today (12/02) when I try to add a new recording the spinner just spins and spins. The recording is not ever added to the recording schedule. I’m guessing that if I restart my Plex Media Server the problem will clear. And I will do this in a few hours. But if there’s some debug info I can gather before restarting the server, let me know…

I stopped my server and restarted it. Now I can successfully schedule recordings again. Note: clicking “exit” on the Plex task icon (Win 10) did not stop the server. I had to manually kill it in the Task Manager.

Moments prior to killing the server I attempted to add a recording “100000 Cameras - Ohio State at Michigan”. The web UI never returned from this request, spinning forever like the image above. The title did not appear in my list of scheduled recordings. I dumped the logs (attached) and then restarted the server.
