11 days since I could last access my Plex Media Server

Server Version#: 1.18.7.2434-db2335ec5-x86
Player Version#: Android phone, Android Tablet, Chrome Browser, Edge Browser, Desktop App, PS4 Pro, PS3… nowhere able to be accessible

I was watching a video and it turned just off. Thought there was another update. As per usual, often Plex does not work anymore when there are updates. Which pretty much sucks, I paid Plex Lifetime Pass back then and there were so many times I regretted this… because it just wouldn’t work anymore.

Anyway, I just updated the server to the most current version, checked security settings, router settings, restarted the server… nothing works. The server is not accessible. Neither via LAN or from external. I have read all troubleshooting instructions, nothing works.

I cannot access my server or settings of it. So what can I do? I don’t want to uninstall everything and install it once more, I have done this already 2 times in the past. If this is the solution, I’d rather have my money back.

I’m running the server on Synology DS214play. DSM 6.2.

How about we work through this before posturing and erasing what you have?

Waiting 11 days before creating a thread to ask for assistance doesn’t imply any sense of urgency in this matter but we will solve it now if we can.

Please tell me what you can about your server:

  1. Is it in a Docker container or a VM?
  2. Please confirm it’s a 32 bit installation and not 64 bit ?
  3. Can you go to Control Panel - Shared Folders - EDIT the Plex share - Permissions tab - Add your Syno username to the list with R/W permissions.

Now open File Station,
Navigate to the Plex share
Navigate down into Library - Application Support - Plex Media Server
Right-click “Logs” -> Compress to Logs.zip

When the ZIP file is done.
Please download to your computer and then attach here with your next reply.
I will look at what is wrong if possible.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply. I did what you asked of me, so far no difference  What I wonder is, there’s also a Plex user which has user defined permissions. I did not change that, should that be also R/W?Logs.zip (6.8 MB)

I even added new certificates to my NAS, as I feared maybe that might be the reason for it to not be recognized, although I configured it to accept unsecure connections. But also no difference.

I don’t know what a docker container is, but it’s definitely not a VM. I just installed the spk as usual in DSM.

I have the 32bit version running. Last installed package is PlexMediaServer-1.18.7.2434-db2335ec5-x86.spk

Your server has not started since 06-Feb-2020.

I would like to take this back to the basics.

  1. Make certain Package Center shows Plex as Stopped
  2. Open File Station -> Plex share.
  3. Rename Library to Library.keep
  4. Start Plex
  5. Now open http://ip.addr.of.synology:32400/web
  6. We will create a new “TEST” (use “TEST” as the friendly name) server
  7. Complete the setup but add only one media library (a small one)
  8. Allow the new test server to complete all setup and metadata tasks.
  9. Verify normal operation in all regards with that limited media library.

Good morning,
after these steps I can at least view the small library from the browser, but I cannot access it through the Android app, although the library is shown, but it says it couldn’t connect to the server. That library is also tiny and only contains 11 private videos.

In the Windows app it also works, haven’t tried PlayStation 3 or 4 yet, but usually I stream from one of my Android devices to one of my Chromecasts.

The android app is still looking for the original (your main) server.
It does not know to look for “TEST”.

Reset the Android app and have it use ‘TEST’ as its new Home server.

Continue to add media (sections) slowly until you’ve added all media.
