2.3.1 issues

Definite improvement in this version, @Moussa . Shaka error is gone, play/pause/stop all work now, and the “up” nav going away is very welcome as well. That said, two issues still remain.

  • Fast-Forward and Rewind still don’t work correctly. Prior to the new UI in October, they worked as expected. It would be great if this went back to how it was and you used something else for the current behavior, maybe RB/LB if they aren’t being used for anything already.

  • The back button still takes you to the interstitial page with the countdown if you press it near the end of an episode. It should take you back to whatever screen you were on previously. People who want to watch the next episode can (and will/do) press the skip-ahead (next track) button and not the back button.

FF/RW functionality is being looked into, but I can’t give promises or provide timelines at this point.

I’ve bought up the back button behaviour internally and it’s being discussed.

Hi Xbox One Plex team.

Thank you for your efforts and hope you make this player great again, so here are some observations with latest client and maybe propositions for further improvements.

  • ISSUE: Oversaturation on some media while direct stream/play (same observation on latest Mac OSX Plex Media Player). Transcoding solves the issue and subtitles have no impact on this behavior.

Same video with and without transcoding:

  • OBSERVATION: Seeking problem and buffering seems to be related with subtitles
When I disable subtitles with media that had issues while seeking and displaying message “Buffering”, seeking seems to work with my sample media so this could be a lead to investigate further.
Also, I always see subtitles transcoded with mp4 or mkv containers. Dont know that this is normal.
My Samsung 2015 smart tv and Emby on xbox play almost everything (video, audio, subs) without transcoding.
Logging to plex server is giving errors when seeking with subtitles, this is one example of those errors: “ERROR Throttle: timed out trying to read chunk 22”

  • OBSERVATION: Upper left corner before login screen displays yellow rectangle (cosmtic, not functional observation)

  • PROPOSITION: Can some form of caching be implemented in Xbox One client so when listing and going through big libraries doesnt display placeholders for couple of secunds and later on cover? From observation it seems Plex server is returning 30 items at once. This caching seems to be working with Mac Plex Media Player client so when I scroll through all of my library items they seem to be cached and later on scrolling through them is seamless without empty placeholders.

  • PROPOSITION: Can smooth breathable transitioning during library items listing and scrolling be implememted as it is implemented on Mac Plex Player Client? This is only cosmetic and will give much nicer and not so “cold” and flat feeling on Xbox One interface.
Here is an example of smooth breathable transitioning from Mac client:

Thanks,

@Moussa Can you please check my previous post up before this one with experiences on Xbox One client.

Thanks and regards,
I

Hi there.

Your saturation issue is likely due to the HDR -> SDR conversion when transcoding. The Plex for Xbox One app doesn’t support HDR yet.

Please do send a sample file where you get issues with buffering if you have subtitles enabled.

We have improvements planned for app transitions and scrolling behaviour down the line for sure.

Ok, thanks!

Sample media links sent in PM.

@Moussa FYI the back button / lost focus issue is still not actually fixed. Watching the last show in a series, hitting back before it’s “done” and focus is lost. Can move around and hear it dinging, but nothing has focus. Only solution is to go to the xbox dash, kill plex, start it back up.
