So, basically I can rarely get my Plex client to open on my TV. When I select it the whole screen fills with the PLEX logo but then just hangs, without then opening the app. The only way I can get the app to open is to physically turn the TV off and on again at the power outlet or (new trick I learnt to reset the TV) by holding the TV power button on for about 10 seconds, which has the same affect.
I’ve tried uninstalling and re-installing the app but to no avail. Is anyone else suffering from this problem? Maybe it’ll be fixed with the newer app version but I’m not in the preview gang so can’t try it…
I’ve experienced the same issue.
I find that after selecting Plex, if you then go back to the Samsung TV menu and highlight Plex you should then see recently watched media above the Plex App. If you select one of these recently watched items you are taken back to the black Plex logo screen. If you then press the back button on the remote you should hear the familiar feedback sound (click/beep noise) and then Plex should actually load.
It’s the only workaround I can find other than resetting your TV.
Sorry for the dealy in replying. I can’t get it to work. I’ve resorted to putting the TV power on a wifi plug so I can turn the TV on/off with ease. I think there’s a general issue with the app on my Samsung TV as it also has a tendancy to not play files and buffer a lot. I don’t have the same issues when using my Nvidia Sheild TVs or via the web app.
Final update on this. I searched through this forum and found a better resolution than turning the TV on and off (apologies I can’t remember where it is). Basically, go to Plex app and it just shows the splash screen, press and hold the “back” button and after a couple of seconds it’ll go to the previous app, then go back to the Plex app and it’ll open correctly. My (Plex) life has returned.
same issue here with the app not opening on my 2016 Samsung TV. I have tried uninstall/reinstalling, etc. Only thing that seems to fix it temporarily is unplugging the TV and plugging it back in which is annoying, or holding the back button as others mentioned. Does anyone know if a fix for this ever coming?
