So what im running into is that when if i turn on the “Enbale New Vdieo Player” feature i get video crashing after 15min of playback and also wont let you scroll forward without crashing.
This happens on the following video types
x265 .mp4
x264 .mkv
x264 .mp4
Only workaround i have found so far is turnning of the feature and all the videos play fine.
Is this a known bug?
The new video player was introduced a long time ago and have never been stable for me. (Shield Pro old gen)
I actually have reverted back to chromecast since the Android plex version have been so buggy with crashes and problems with subtitles.
This is a constant problem for many of us right now. I’m surprised you make it 15min into the video. Mine usually crash immediately. Are you using the tube (non-pro) or Pro version of the 2019 nvidia shield?
Im using the tube. Funny enough though i has and old 2017 Pro that did the same thing.
Seems like all other devices life fire stick, apply tv, chromecast all handle it fine. Just the Shields are broke.
… and interestingly my experience is different. For sure I have had an unrelated issue or two over the last day or so.
But as someone who found the much vaunted past version of the flagship Plex device was nothing more than an over-hyped piece of junk, It’s generally worked for me since I got the 2019 pro, combined with the new player.
It’s certainly never crashed on me.
EDIT… To clarify the piece of junk comment.
If you have an HD Audio receiver and need HD Audio then probably your only option. (Everything has a USP and beyond that it’s worst in class)
If not then a totally pointless device, when far better/cheaper options existed and I could never have slightly hinted the Shield to anyone.
But hey times have changed… The Shield Pro 2019 rocks.
Apparently buying the tube was the dumbest decision ever…
Yeah no experience of it personally but I haven’t seen a single postive comment yet apart from the remote.
I will add my voice to the choir but my problems usually occur after 40 minutes or so.

Just read your entire saga. You have been at this a long time, longer than me! I swear everything was working fine a month or so ago for me. But the last few weeks have been absolutely awful with the stuttering crashes. Sometimes it take me 10 times and 10 force stops or reboots to get something to play. Then it’s usually good for a few hours.
Anyway thanks for your detailed posts and for speaking up. Over on the Nvidia forums their official Nvidia responses blamed the plex apps memory footprint and said they were working with the plex team to get it under control. No comment still from the plex team on all of these stutter / crash issues on the tube version of the 2019 Nvidia shield…
Your problem is exactly the ones i have. 40 minutes of playback sometimes choppy and subtitles will get more and more out of sync until the whole session crashes.
This started months ago and still havent been fixed. So i reverted to use my Shield as a chromecast-player to skip over the use old player “fix”
