2019 Nvidia Shield Pro refresh rate switching problem

Hi, the refresh rate switching plex setting isn’t working correctly for me. When playing 30FPS (29.97) TV shows, it switches the refresh rate of my LG C2 to 60Hz instead of 30Hz. does plex automatically double the frame rate? I also noticed that 25FPS shows make my TV change to 50Hz.

Since nobody has replied yet, this is expected behavior, as those are interlaced frame rates. They are doubled for output.

Just to clarify, the refresh rate of the screen is doubled, not the video fps. As long as it’s a multiple of two, it shouldn’t look too different from exactly matching.

TV motion settings can affect how it looks though, so if it looks different compared to playing it back at the exact refresh rate, you might want to check your settings.

Ok. it also happens with 25 and 30fps progressive scan TV shows, not just interlaced ones. is that normal?

I’ll have to try some myself later. Can you show us a mediainfo of one or two?

Sure.

Did some testing myself just now. 25 fps interlaced and progressive are both output at 50Hz. 29.97 fps interlaced is output at 60 Hz (LG shows 24/60 for both 23/24 and 59/60 respectively, but that’s just the way it’s represented in the diagnostic screen. It does switch to the correct one).

I tried with and without resolution switching in Plex. Same result. Have a feeling it’s not Plex, but rather the Shield itself doing this.

I was looking through the Nvidia shield display settings and found out that I can force it to output 1080p at 29.97hz or 25hz to match the framerate of what I’m watching if I have refresh rate switching and resolution switching off in plex. should I do that or just let the shield auto output at either 50hz or 60hz for PAL and NTSC framerates?

I would just set the Shield to 59/60Hz and let it switch refresh rates in Plex. I have watched many things at 25/29 fps, interlaced and progressive. Never noticed anything detrimental.
