33% Spinner of Doom Take II

This is a continuation of this issue:

Unfortunately while rarer in x64, this does still occur with the latest NVidia drivers and Plex Media Server version.

I have opened a ticket with NVidia, and received the following message this morning:

Hello Michael,

Thanks for contacting NVIDIA technical support L2 and for your feedback.

We are aware of the problem you cite with our product and the Plex application.

Our engineering team is working with the Plex developer on this issue so the problem can be resolved. Thanks for your patience.

I wanted to confirm that this was the case and to at least open a forum thread here to track.

@sa2000 looking at you here.

Thank you for your continued assistance in addressing this issue.

Thank you for any update you can provide for this issue @sa2000

I have raised this with our teams. Initial feedback that NVIDIA are investigating and we are not actively involved.

Thank you @sa2000 I will get confirmation from NVidia on the status of this issue then.

Happy Holidays to you and the team out there :turkey:

That is the same nvidia dll that we had crashing before - Suggest get the details and a Plex Transcoder.dmp file to Nvidia and if they need any input from us - they can ask

That’s a good point. I am not seeing a .dmp file anywhere, but see a .wer file was created. Is this the same?

Also, it’s interesting that Plex Transcoder.exe has a version of 0.0.0.0 is this expected?

I should also add that I am reading this document:
https://support.plex.tv/articles/201455336-crash-logs-plex-media-server/

And I see neither %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Crash Reports nor %LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps folders.

This gets created by Windows when you make the registry change mentioned on the support article Crash Logs: Plex Media Server | Plex Support

It is the same in that the transcoder crashed - but the dmp files should get captured by windows when you make the registry change outlined in the support article

You did have these generated before

I flattened my server due to a myriad of problems with my Windows 10 install which was done in 2018.

I have added that key. Let’s see if that does the trick. :crossed_fingers:

Bumping to keep this thread alive.

Unfortunately, football season is over so the usage of Plex is going way down for the most part.

I have been asking NVidia for a few months now on an update and have not heard anything through their customer support channels. :man_shrugging:

Seems they are content with having their software crash and are not interested in fixing it.

It would be valuable to see if Plex can contact NVidia and get a status update on this issue.

Losing hope here in the pursuit of making things better in the world.

I got an update from NVidia on this issue:

Hi Michael,

This transcoder bug is still open and under QA and engineering investigation with the Plex team.

Thanks for your patience.

It sounds like Plex is now in communication with NVidia now? Can we please get confirmation on this?

Hi @sa2000 any update and/or comment on the above, please?

Suddenly not looking so promising :disappointed:
