I've begun to amass a large collection of both 2d and 3d content. forgive me if this has already been discussed but is there a way, or one in development, where the server can distinguish between two titles of the same name but one 3d and the other 2d. currently the server sees them as the same thing and it thinks i simply have two copies of the same movie.
no there is not. the server has no knowledge that the file is 3d or not. the only thing you can really do currently is split it apart so the movie is listed twice and then rename the 3d one in metadata so you can tell the difference. ( see image below where i made a "special" edition of zombieland)
there have been multiple requests to do things like this, not just for 3d, but for other things like directors cut vs theatrical for example. where you click on it once and it asks which versions to play. or even for adding extra features to a single entry.
it is one of the many requests the devs are considering and trying to figure out a good way to present/implement it across the many Plex apps on the various platforms. when/if it will happen, i do not know
Not only did I add a "(3D)" to the titles of the movies, I also placed them in their own folder with their own Plex Library section. Actually works out better with the kids because they can just open the one section and see every 3D movie we have.
I did the same. I created a separate folder with all my 3D content in and then made a 3D movies section. Works fine, the only drawback I have is that plex still doesn’t realise they’re 2 separate movies so when I watch either the 2D or the 3D version I tend to have 2 entries in on deck if I don’t watch the entire movie.
