4.8.2 AppImage and Flatpak crash on Fedora 38

I’m getting the following message when trying to run the appimage:

Update for version 4.8.2 is not available (latest version: 4.8.2, downgrade is disallowed).
checkForUpdatesAndNotify called, downloadPromise is null
[280067:0831/075831.461700:ERROR:gl_surface_presentation_helper.cc(260)] GetVSyncParametersIfAvailable() failed for 2 times!
Error: Render process (Plexamp) crashed (139) :frowning:
Quitting…

I’ve tried in wayland (the Fedora default) and x11. Same result.

Has anybody gotten this to work?

Well, using a process of trial and error I found that the last FLATPAK version that works (at least on Fedora Linux 38) is:

The current versions, crash immediately and won’t even open.

There are a few versions after 4.6.2 that will play music, but they crash then immediately reopen and have issues with functions such as the visualizer, i.e. it doesn’t work.

I’m thinking this is an electron bug. If the plex folks could review the information on reddit and comment would be appreciated.

Bumping to say I also have this problem.

A temporary workaround for the Flatpak version is to install the flatpak “flatseal” and disable “Wayland Windowing System” for plexamp. It’s an electron issue.

This is the only solution for now. It’s an issue between Nvidia’s drivers and electron, and not something we can currently do much about unfortunately.

@aubrey.wodonga Thanks for taking the time to comment. Just to let you know however, this isn’t limited to Nvidia drivers. I have a AMD Radeon card and the problem is occurring there. One thing you might do, if you haven’t already is to comment on the electron issue here: [Bug]: GPU crashed in all recent Versions: Passthrough is not supported, GL is disabled, ANGLE is · Issue #32317 · electron/electron · GitHub - which has been open since January, 2022. If the electron folks don’t have a clue on how to fix, one would think they would be discussing with the Wayland developers - going on 2 years should be enough time to resolve.
