Since updating to the new version of Plex on both the server and on the 4K Fire TV Stick (this is happening on all 4 of my 4K Fire TV Sticks), I’m getting frequent crashing watching live TV. I’ve pretty much got the culprit pinpointed to the new video player. When I disable the new player, live TV works like a charm and I’ve watched multiple hours of TV with no crashes, freezes, etc. However, when enabled, I get constant crashes during viewing and errors when switching between channels. Hopefully there’s a fix coming as the new improvements to Live TV work great, when they work.
I didn’t realize we could disable the new player until now. I’ve also been seeing random stream crashing for live tv and regular media on my 4K fire tv stick. I just disabled the new player and so far no crashes for live tv. It hasn’t been very long yet, but I do think you may be onto something regarding the new player. I’ll try this out for a bit and let you know what I see.
I’m quite certain it’s the new player causing the issues on the 4K Fire TV sticks. So much for a more reliable live TV playback experience. I’ve been using the old player now for the better part of a week and it’s been working perfect. No crashes or freezes. They need to get this fixed.
So I’m not sure that was my issue or not now. I still had a crash while on the old player so I went back to the new one and removed an HDMI switcher I between the firetv stick and screen and now everything seems to be better. Although I’ll keep my eyes open going forward for any weirdness.
I’m really surprised there’s not more posts about this. So far this has been tested on 10 4K Fire TV sticks (4 on my network, and the other 6 on multiple friend’s who own hosted Plex servers) and we are all having the exact same issues. Frequent freezes/crashes and errors when switching to another channel. All of us, 4 in total, have the most recent Plex app, Plex server software and Fire OS and all are running Plex in Windows 10. 3 of us have HD Homerun Prime’s and one has a Quatro. This has to be a widespread issue.
Same here. Don’t think they addressed the crashing issues with live TV for fire TVsticks with the new update. Crashed 10 seconds into a show on one stick. About a minute in on another and a little over 2 minutes on a third. Back to the old player unfortunately.
Still crashing and freezing on all 4 4K Fire TV sticks after 8.0.0.17276 update. Friends reporting same issues on their home servers as well. Surprised there’s not more posts about this. Seems to be a widespread issue.
A month later and I’m still having the same exact issues. Any idea if a fix is coming for 4K Fire TV Sticks? None of the updates in the past month have seemed to address the errors, crashes and audio syncing issues while viewing Live TV or tuning to a channel. It’s almost unwatchable using the new player. I’ve tested on multiple networks with different server hardware and still get the same results. The only similarities hardware-wise during testing are the 4K Fire TV Sticks and the HD Homerun Prime. Using the old player makes Live TV a bit more tolerable, although intermittent freezing still occurs. I’m not getting the same errors with the old player however. Anyone else using the 4K Fire TV Sticks having similar issues?
The Fire Stick 4k has a know bug with the ExoPlayer (new player),
It crashes the client when it plays interlaced video sometimes.
That team has been working for months on it (and other bugs)…
No update has been given, has been asked…
Note that these bugs affect all the apps running on the Fire Stick 4k ExoPlayer.
The option to use the old one remains till the team at Amazon decides to remove it.
