Hello,
I am trying to play a 4 K MKX file on my Chromecast Ultra, but it’s constantly buffering. Here are the video specs -
Container - MKV
Video Fram Rate - 24P
Codec - HEVC
Bit Depth - 10
I have a Samsung TV - http://www.samsung.com/us/video/tvs/UN60JU6500FXZA-specs and it also looks like my TV supports HVEC 265 - http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/201512/20151210090904492/ENG_US-HMUATSCJ-1.318-1203.pdf
My media server (Seagate) is connected to my MacBook Pro and here are the specs -
Processor - 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory - 16 GB RAM
Graphics - Intel HD Graphics 4000
500 GB SSD
My internet connection is pretty good. I’ve always been able to stream 4K Netflix shows such as Daredevil or Narcos in 4K without any buffering. I’m not entirely sure if I am missing anything here with my setup. I’d appreciate any input.
It’s wireless. :-@
Wireless is never going to be as consistent/reliable as a hardwired connection
Try connecting your TV to your network…
In this page http://www.widevine.com/product_news.html, it says that the new Chromecast Ultra has support for 4K, HDR and Dolby Vision with expanded codec support (HEVC Main and Main10, VP9 profile 0 and 2). But is it true? It will be true if “support” means “doesn’t decode yet, but we’re waiting on the licensing agreements” rather than “actually decodes today.” Many feedback unveiled that when people play HEVC video with Chromecast Ultra using Plex, Plex will transcode hevc to a AVC(h264) codec format and consumes a lot of CPU capacities to do so.
Therefore, a more effective solution is transcoding 4K H.265 to Chromecast Ultra playable H.264 High Profile Level 4.1 video codec with some third-part H.265 video decoder.
