Server Version#: Version 4.38.2
Player Version#: 8.3.1.19108
Hi all,
Wanted to ask here as I haven’t been able to find this error message on any forums anywhere. I am running Plex off a Whatbox Seedbox, and have no issues with the majority of HD content I play.
However when streaming 4k content, I often get this message:
"User Name" asked you to stop your playback from this server. To play 4k content, please set your video quality settings for remote/internet streaming to Maximum/Original.
I am the owner of the server (i.e. my account, my Seedbox), and everything is set for remote/internet streaming to Maximum/Original. I have experienced this issue on both the Samsung TV Plex app as well on my Nividia Pro (which I thought would be transcoding and negate this issue).
Has anyone else experienced this issue or maybe have some suggestions?
The quality settings you need to be worried about are on the clients, not the ones in the PlexWeb interface. Those only dictate the quality of the web player itself.
Also why would transcoding negate a message that warns you that you are transcoding? If anything a Nvidia Shield should be direct playing if you have the bandwidth, and what you want for 4K material anyhow.
Also that message is strange and sounds like a tautulli notification. When you say you “own” this server, did you set it up from scratch or “buy” it from some shady Reddit user?
That is not a standard Plex message. Did your seedbox come with Plex Media Server? This looks like something custom made to detect 4K transcodes and stop them.
I can install Plex on the Seedbox (Whatbox), but there seems to be no settings to change on seedbox side.
Found a solution anyways! Seems latest software upgrade for Nvidia Shield removes the option to have Direct Play (as do TV based android Apps). I am now running Plex on Kodi which allows me to select Direct Play in order not to transcode and works perfectly! Not more buffering issues or messages!
The Android TV app does not have an option to force a direct play if that is what you are referring to. It should still direct play if the file is compatible.
