5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound not playing on Xbox one s

Hi there, I have recently purchased a sony 5.1 surround sound that supports DTS and DD…when I am playing games or navigating I can hear the changes in direction in the sound, but on the Plex Xbox app the sound only comes out from the front speakers. I have receiver connected to my TV via HDMI ARC and both my tv and xbox audio settings are set to Dolby Digital. One the Windows Media player there is audio options that allow the channel to be changed but not on the xbox app…is there something I am missing? any help would be grand.

The app is unable to change the audio settings on the Xbox One. The output from the Xbox One settings is what the Xbox converts the audio sent to it from the server into before sending it out to the TV and back through the arc channel.

If the media you are trying to play is 5.1 and it is coming out as 2 channel we would need to see your server logs/media info to try and help determine what the cause is.

Normally, it would be the sections of the log that deal with the server selecting the stream and the first few minutes during playback.

The best way to typically recreate this is to restart the server, enable logging to server in the xbox one Plex app settings, playback the file creating problems for a few seconds up to a minute, then use the webapp to pull the logs/look for the Plex Media Server.log. This will create a fresh log with little to no other information besides what is specifically being looked for.

Easiest way to send it is to simply attach to the forum. If that doesn’t work or you don’t want to you can send to me in a direct message and I will try and get the information out that is needed for troubleshooting.

As to what to look for, it’s a bit complicated because what you’re describing shouldn’t really be happening. 5.1 AC3 should be able to direct play with no problem and the app won’t request stereo audio from a 5.1 track for the Xbox One. The only two real things that stick out ahead of time is the system audio set to 2-channel/stereo or the file is playing a different a track then what is selected.
