91GB of video in mystery folder

Hi Running the official docker under Unraid (6.6.1)

I received a number of warnings about my cache drive running out of space and after some investigation found out that there’s a huge amount of space being consumed by the Plex docker in a directory called:
/Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Cache/Transcode/Sync+

There’s over 90GB of video files and I don’t know why they’re there. The files have numeric filenames and some appear to be complete movies.

Can anyone shed any light on what’s going on and how I can stop it.

Thanks,

Looks like I worked it out - seems like a copy of everything that is sync’ed to a users device is kept here.
(disabled sync for a heavy user and saw that directory drop in size immediately)

Can’t for the life of me work out why though. Would still be very interested in knowing if this is intended behavior.

Cheers.

The original files would be converted based on the users request for quality, and the number of episodes requested (for TV.) Stored for download. If a partial download occurred it could be resumed.

I assume when the user watched an EP or a movie and his client reported back the file had been watched, the converted version would then be deleted from that storage location.

It converts to a supported container type everything the user requested to be sync’d.
The files will then sit there until said user downloads them locally then they get removed.

It’s how sync works
Blame the guy that wanted all of season 1 on his tablet locally

Thanks for the reply. As I was in a bit of a hurry to get some space back on the cache drive
(from past experience bad things happen when the drive with appdata on it gets full )
I just went on a mini-frenzy of disallowing sync without investigating too much whether the local copies had been downloaded / watched etc.

On a related note the ‘Synced Items’ tab in Tautulli was a really handy tool in working out what was going on, and let me know where to focus my efforts on disallowing sync.

Cheers,
