A better way of reporting bugs and feature requests

Frankly posting here for bugs and features is beyond frustrating, i might as well write down the bugs i find on a piece of paper and throw it into the rubbish.

a proper public bug reporting tool and something like uservoice for feature suggestions would go a long way. i would love to help make plex better by providing full detailed bug reports but anything i post on the forums goes ignored and after a few hours is lost from the front page of the forums.

We asked for something like this over a year ago. Obviously not a high priority, as it hasn’t happened, yet. At least having the bugs and requests in two different forums would be a good start.

I think the Feature & Bug Voting forum is not really appropriate for bugs that need to be resolved now. It is ok for feature requests and any bugs that are not important.

So my view is that the product / platform forums are used for immediate issues / bugs and only long term bug fixes should be registered and channeled into the Feature & Bug Voting forum

I’m very new here and my opinion may change once I learn more and see more here.

I believe that if I am paying for a subscription then I should be talking to staff NOT just someone hanging around and helping out. I want (expect) accountability and responsibility when you want me to pay for something. I’ve been burned enough by “helping hands” that have no responsibility that I’m very hesitant to believe that I’m getting the facts from someone who doesn’t work for the people I’m paying.

If you want to be professional enough to require payment for services then be professional enough to stand up to providing proper support.

Al

we are a small company and cannot provide one on one support unfortunately. we do wish we could and hopefully we will one day.

we don’t require payment for most of what Plex does.

Absolutely Speechless.

Couldn’t agree more, I personally think the feature requests are here just to make people feel good and servers no functional purpose.

we check them all the time. if you want to know what was implemented based on them see here.

to be clear bugs should be reported in the app or server forum section they are related to.

You missed one, I’d requested discover mode in the dash bored ages ago when it first was introduced to android. This has also been implemented.

I second that at the very least bugs and feature requests should be separate. Maybe even by platform. It was asked for in one of the old rant threads, have you looked thurther into this?

for the last 3 months or so, this forum section has only been called “Feature Requests Voting”. because bugs should be reported in the app or server section they related to and should not be “voted” on they are simply logged when discovered/confirmed and fixed as soon as possible.

I’d never even looked at that whoops ha. It has changed.

Can I say that the original post might have been referring to a bug reporting system which is better than “put it in the forum for your app our devs read it, no really, all the time they do”?

How about github? I hear thats pretty popular…

We use github internally thats were employees an ninjas put them after they are triaged here. we reference the forum thread in the report incase the dev or whomever needs more info from the user

some things which are open source, or have parts that are, anyone can access the Github repo for https://github.com/plexinc/

Partly we prefer it not to be filled up with, “I don’t like x new/old/current behavior so I’ll call it a bug” which unfortunately is how many folks see things. ( not saying that of anyone in particular or the folks here )
