Issue #1: On my Galaxy S21 running 4.4.0, if I precache a “station” it plays just fine when away from the home wireless network (on cellular) playing through car audio via Bluetooth. If I don’t precache (for example selecting a new “station,”) it plays for a part of the first tune then shuts down. Since I’m driving, I can’t work the phone to see what’s going on but it seems that it doesn’t want to stream over cellular.
Issue #2: When listening in the car via Bluetooth, when I park and shut off the car, the player keeps playing in my pocket. All other players stop playing and await instructions on what audio output to use.
I have two logs. 360033800072240 is a log following the successful playing of a 360033800072240.zip (323.8 KB) 360861694767966.zip (357.7 KB)
cached station followed by the pocket play after turning off the car through which the phone was playing. The second log 360861694767966 is after I switched to an uncached station which played for a bit, then stopped. When I got to s traffic light, I started to capture logs when the station played after swiping the screen, the light changed so I put the phone down to drive, playing stopped again after a few moments then did the pocket play when I stopped the car at home.
Plex indicates that my remote access is properly configured and system remote performance indicates that it is true. It’s only PlexAmp that does not work remotely over cellular. I can view my Plex videos even from Europe and various US locations. Additionally, if I pick a station that I have not tried before while in my car away from my home network, it works when I have the phone in my hand. When I put the phone down and drive, it works for 1-3 minutes then the connection dies.
How about the issue where it plays in my pocket after the car audio is turned off?
It appears to me that the app is not able to keep the cellular connection alive when the screen goes black. If I am remote in the car connecting over cellular, I can start a play on the phone and play through the car. It works however long I keep the screen active. When I put the phone down and drive, it plays for 1 min and stops. If I wake the phone and swipe to get to the active window, the app will connect and play. Back to driving and it works for 1 min and dies again. Repeat, keeps working and stopping.
I opened Plex in the parking lot of my destination and watched a video with no issue over cellular.
Then the likely culprit is Android putting the app to sleep or killing it, which would imply an overly-aggressive battery setting. Check all those settings, bearing in mind that depending on your device make and model, there might be different ways to disable.
I looked at Samsung Music, which works in every way except requires local content, and set PlexAmp the same way. I’ll try it tomorrow. PlexAmp was set to Restricted. Samsung Music was set to Optimized. We’ll see what happens.
I see something in your logs that might result in playback not stopping when the car is disconnected, I’ll have to make a build for you to try to see if my theory is sound.
Does your AA set up use Bluetooth? Do you experience similar problems with any other Bluetooth devices (headphones etc)?
Yes, my phone connects to the car by Bluetooth. I listened on the phone with Bluetooth headphones and when I switched them off, the player stopped. This doesn’t happen in the car.
