A Couple of Questions...

  1. i want to change how movie titles appear which appears to be easily done using the edit tool… is there anything that will change/undo these edits once done, like updates or server refreshes? in short, i want to protect all of my changes… i noted little yellow lock icons next to title names, does activating them protect them from being changed? if so, is this the only way to protect the changes?

  2. intuitively it seems that entering the movie’s “original title” during the edit process would allow plex to add the movie’s correct metadata upon refresh, regardless of what’s entered for “title” and “sort title”, which is what happens with kodi (and extremely quickly i might add), but that’s not the case, i’m having to add poster art manually, adding the movie’s “original title” in plex doesn’t seem to effect anything… example: arrival (2016).

  3. plex did a pretty good job adding the far majority of my movie files to the library but failed to add 10… assuming i can identify which 10 they are, how do i go about manually adding them?

thanks very much.

You must make sure that your movie is not in an ‘unmatched’ state. (which happens usually when Plex failed to identify the movie properly.) Otherwise Plex will try to find a match upon next library update/refresh which will overwrite your manual edits.
If you really want to write in all the information yourself, you must classify this movie as ‘Personal Media’ by doing ‘Fix Match’… > ‘AutoMatch’ > ‘Personal Media’
But if this is a regular cinema movie, there is a better way. see 2)

No. The key to proper automatic recognition of a movie is to name the file according to the guides:
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200381023-Naming-Movie-files

Filebot supports you in your renaming edeavour, both for movies and tv show (which are even more strictly handled than movies)

If you are using mp4 files, you should also do the following, to prevent embedded wrong metatags interfering with the matching process:
Settings > Server > Agents > Movies > Plex Movie
drag the line ‘Local Media Assets’ downwards, so it ends up at the bottom of the list of active agents

follow 2) very closely

then How to find the discrepancy between number of files on disk and the number of movies in the Plex movie library

thanks very much, very helpful!
