A glitch in the matrix

Server Version#:1.21.3
Player Version#:8.12.4.22902

Plex Media Server Logs_2021-02-14_06-47-22.zip (6.6 MB) I hope I got what someone needed…should have done the logs yesterday afternoon when this glitch happened…

When watching PLEX on the Sony TV, sometimes it will hiccup while playing the video. It will do this a few times over about 3-5 minutes and then it resets the player and takes me back to the login/user screen and will then let me restart the video from where it stopped and works fine.

It’s done this a dozen times over the last couple of weeks…

It’s certainly NOT my network speed…the entire house is gigabit.

Anyway, I downloaded the logs and turned on debugging this morning to see if I can capture what’s happening. If what you need isn’t in here…I’ll make sure I do the log download right after this happens the next time.

Just did it again…@ 11:30 and here are the logs.

Plex Media Server Logs_2021-02-14_11-14-22.zip (6.4 MB)

And once more @ 1:25 on another movie…

Plex Media Server Logs_2021-02-14_13-10-07.zip (5.9 MB)

And again today @ 12:09

Would you please check your Date/Time timezone settings?
While checking date and time settings, please also check the locale / language.
I am getting a lot of default UTF-16 (chinese symbols) in your logs (Wrong character set)

You state: @ 12:09

  1. The date/time stamp of the log ZIP shows 11:54:09 am
  2. There is no 12:09 in the logs.

Not sure why…the NAS is set to CST and English…

The glitch happens about 3 minutes from the end of the logs…or should it they are pulling everything correctly.

Just did it to me again…Plex Media Server Logs_2021-02-16_13-38-53.zip (5.4 MB)

According to your logs, your windows client is connecting in a way that is treated as WAN, meaning not on the same IP net as your QNAP.
192.168.68.x Net (PMS) vs. 172.17.10.x Net (Windows Desktop Client)

Playing at the same time with the same user ID, but two different devices?
And connected when you reported the problem

I can’t see any trace of like heavy transcoding in the logs, but try for a small test and not connect your Windows client while playing, or even better put the windows box on the same IP net as the rest.

And regarding one log been scrambled, I strongly suggest a QNAP restart, since this could indicate memory probs

I’ll give it a shot, Dane22…

I have the system I’m using to rip the DVD’s in my workshop subnet…separate from the house network. The fans on the workstation are loud and obnoxious…so I put it somewhere I don’t have to hear it all day (and night).

Since I’m the Admin, it just didn’t seem it would actually cause problems if the Sony TV was also logged into the same user. I was using it to match up the movies with the correct titles if the software didn’t link them automatically.

We took a power outage the other morning from the cold here in Texas. I recovered the NAS and rebooted it after the file system checks…but it won’t hurt to reboot it again now.

We’ll see what happens…

That didn’t fix it…here is another log download. Should be a few minutes from the end of the log file…

It does it on the FireStick as well…so it isn’t the client on the Sony TV.

Not sure of the exact time this morning…but search for “The Raven” and you should see what the time it went completely haywire. Usually it is just a subtle glitch or 5 before it really kicks the user out, but this morning it was doing it for over a minute continuously before it cratered.
