I have a bunch of movies that have 7.1 AAC audio and all of them cause my Android TV to not output any sound and to fast forward the video every 10 secs. If I start playing a video I’ll have 5 seconds of normal video with no sound, it will then skip 30 seconds, play for 5 more seconds without sounds, maybe skip 1 minute and so on.
The movies direct play on the TV. If I cast them to the TV’s built in Chromecast then the audio is transcoded and I get sound and normal playback. If I switch another audio track (like the 2.0 commentary track) then the movies play fine.
I can PM logs and samples. Here’s media info for one of the movies:
Found the reason for me. Audio over optical cable and HDMI Arc only supports up to 5.1 channels and not 7.1.
But then Plex should convert down to 5.1 and doesn’t do that.
When the new ShieldTV is released, I will buy one (even if it’s one more device again)
@Benni-chan is your problem that you’re just not getting audio? My problem is that it makes the video skip + no audio. My audio output is just the TV speakers.
You have to post logs if they’re going to be able to help you. Get logging started, recreate the issue, and then upload them here. Link to instructions:
Thanks for the link, but I already mentioned in the first post that I have logs and samples that I can PM to a dev. This is a public forum so I’m not going to post them here for privacy reasons.
So I got new information: with the latest player update there’s a new option when I select Optical Passthrough where I can uncheck EAC3 and DTS. Doing that forces a transcode on the audio and the movies play fine with the video stream being copied. However, if I choose subtitles both audio and video are being transcoded due to the known bug. I don’t have any home theater or receiver connected to the TV, just using the builtin speakers.
Philips 9002. Should play HEVC just fine, but in combination with 7.1 AAC, I’m also facing skips and no audio. When I let Plex transcode, everything works just fine.
Still buggy tho, Plex shouldn’t be transcoding at all, since the Philips supports HEVC fine.
I’ve attached logs. If more are neccesary, I’d be more than willing to retest.
*Edit: on second thought, the standard logs contain way too much information, like plaintext email-adresses… If any dev wants detailed logs, happy to provide!
