We own a tablet that we use primarily as a remote control for our audio and home theater setup. PMP running on a RPi3 acts as the renderer/player in that setup. Whenever we pick up the tablet , the first action is almost always to set the “controlled player” to the PMP.
Want to change the channel? …set the “controlled player” first.
Did you just close and open the tablet’s cover?.. set the “controlled player” first.
Want to mute the audio system to answer the phone? … yup, first set the “controlled player”.
This is like having a TV remote that forces you to go through the exact same button pressing routine each time before you can use it. This becomes extremely repetitive.
In this sense an old IR remote is superior, as they don’t demand to be constantly re-configured before use. It doesn’t have to be this way though.
Hoped for solution:
A setting that allows us to specify the default “controlled player”. The mobile app then automatically connects to that player, displays “now playing” based on that player, and controls that player.
Only if the connection to the default player can’t be established, does the mobile app revert to using itself as the player.
So, am I the only person who has a dedicated plex renderer (Raspberry Pi) that is hooked up to an audio/video system and that is controlled from a plex controller (iPad)? Am I the only one who would like the controller to remember the device it is supposed to control?
+1. Ive been asking for something like this for years in the IOS section. Either have it so it stays selected or have a long press option to pick the player you want to cast to. Your pressing play anyway, why not have it as one of the long press options? Having to choose the player every time at the top of the interface then going back and pressing play adds unnecessary button presses which is a huge turn off for me.
Hey hstamas, we’ll I’m glad I’ve got some company here. Still, I’m beginning to doubt casting is within the scope of features that are regularly used. Hope some votes and some more replies will prove me wrong. Remember to “Like” the post if you want to vote for it. The “+1” isn’t counted.
