Absolute ordering Batman TAS

Hi all

I’ve been using Plex for quite some time and I decided to put everything in order since most of my filenames were not according to regular Plex syntax. I have, however, stumbled upon a problem of ordering my Batman TAS episodes.

My folder followed the same ordering as this Wikipedia-site: List of Batman: The Animated Series episodes - Wikipedia

This list does not correspond with the initial airing dates which messes up the metadata for each episode. For the first season, this is corrected when I select ‘absolute numbering’. The problem does remain for the second season. I included some screenshots so you can see that in the second season i get metadata for episodes that are already present in the first season (e.g. The Worry Men). Is there any way of forcing this absolute numbering for subsequent seasons? I would like to not have to completely renumber my files for correct metadata, resulting in a chronologically (story line-wise) less accurate library.

If i missed out on an already existing thread, please refer me to that one! (and sorry for the repost if so)

Kind regards and thanks in advance

While I do not have a direct answer to your question, you could check the data that the TVDB shows for the series. Plex relies heavily, if not exclusively on the data it receives from them. If the data is incorrect in the TVDB for the second season, you may have a lot of manual work to do.

If it IS correct, then there may be a Plex issue.

Thanks for your answer AmazingRando24.

That was also something i was doubting… Today was my first encounter with the TVDB and from what i have read today there are still(?) problems with different numbering ‘schemes’ in the TVDB. At least, it’s not possible to show the episodes in any other ordering than that of airing, so I’m not able to verify if the ‘absolute’ numbering (or DVD nulbaring aswell) is correct in TVDB. So I totally not sure what the actual ‘absolute’ ordering in the TVDB is.

I’m glad to see this topic, as I’m dealing with this myself right now. It doesn’t appear that ANY online resource lists the episodes in the “absolute order” as laid out on the Batman - Complete Animated Series box set. The TVDB isn’t correct, neither is IMDB. Wikipedia’s S1 listing is right, but S2 isn’t. Furthermore, Batman TAS Season 3 is also called The New Batman Adventures, and none of these resources have those episodes in the same order as the box set.

The only resource that has all the episodes in the same order as the box set is Amazon Prime Video. It breaks the seasons down to 28/29 episode chunks, instead of the three seasons listed in the box set, but the episodes are all in the correct order.

This is extremely confusing! And more than a little frustrating. I’ve actually been digging through the forms to see if there was a way for Plex to eschew pulling data for just this series, and list the episodes purely based on how I’ve named and numbered them.

do a fix match on the show, choose Search options and then change the agent to “personal media shows” and it will not download online metadata for it. ( if local media assets is enabled for personal media shows, it will get embedded metadata in an MP4)

Thank you. I didn’t realize I could do this. I wish there was a database with the correct information, but I prefer the correct episode order a bit more :slightly_smiling_face:
